The Asian countries have buried us in the merchandise department now they are going after the food. This is what i'm seeing in our local super markets=
sardines with a "product from China"label
garlic with a "grown in China"tag
Impossible to find snow peas not grown in China
lot of seafood from China especially frozen fish, frozen shrimps and prawns and crabs and strange named fish like Talapia, Pangesus,
Check the labels at your food store as to where the product came from.

My local Kroeger (known here by another name) had some garlic that looked absolutely horrible!!! When I saw that it was from China, I refused to buy it (lest I poison the family.) The last time I was in the store, I again needed garlic. This time the stuff, while looking somewhat better, was from Venezula! I will buy Canadian but that is as far from home as I am willing to go.

Don't look at labels. If it's what I want at the price I want I don't really care. The Ford Edge I test drove was made in Canada. The Subaru I bought was made in the states. If I buy it in a US store (many of which are foreign-owned) it's keeping US workers in jobs, the delivery driver is working, and so on and so forth. So, not relevant to me.

being from Canada we have the same issues you guys in the south have from China. I try to buy made in USA or Canada first but sometimes is tough. I work retail and have to say we have some products now where most of the internal components come from China. The prices are always less due to costs and people buy them like crazy. The funny part is no one ever questions why some are so much less. I think we have to get back to buying quality first before price. I see the Chinese products first hand and see some of it is pretty suspect but people now put that secondary. Alot of it is in consumer awareness and retraining to look after ourselves first......

Being a Canadian, I always try to purchase goods made in Countries that have similar values and lifestyles to our own (U.S.A, England, France, Spain, etc). My first choice is Canadian made, while my next is always U.S.A. As others have commented, it's getting more and more difficult to find these products. Here is the letter I sent to the Canadian Prime Minister's office and President Obama's office:

We have a monumental problem in North America that has been ignored for years, to our peril. The standard of living that our parents and grandparents fought so hard to protect and build, is being lost. We have allowed our manufacturing sectors to drift to Countries whose standard of living for it’s citizen’s is far below that of our own, whose environmental policies are despicable and whose governments are corrupt and often controlled by drug cartels, organized crime and even terrorists. THIS MUST STOP, NOW!!! Canadians and Americans must stand up and set the standard for the rest of the world. We must stop supporting drug cartels, organized crime and terrorists. We must protect that which our parents and grandparents fought so hard for and in many instances, died for.
If other Countries around the world wish to do business with us, we will dictate the conditions. They must meet or exceed our own employment standards, environmental standards and laws. They must provide a standard of living for their employees that meet or exceed the standard of living of the middle class citizen in our Countries. If these companies fail to meet any of these criteria, we must not allow them to import their goods into our Countries. We must not allow our standard of living to continue to be eroded. We must protect that which previous generations fought so hard to build. We must set the world standard for environmental policies. We must bring those jobs that have been lost, back to the U.S. and Canada. We must stop supporting the very Countries whose connections to drug cartels, organized crime and terrorists, threaten the very fabric of our society. WE MUST ACT NOW!!!.
If you agree, send this to every politician you know, including the Prime Minister of Canada and the President of the United States. We are in this together. Send this to every news paper. Pass it on to every person on your e-mail list. Post it on every message board. Let’s rebuild our Countries to the, once proud Nations they were.

Surely if we should only buy "Made in USA" or "Made in Canada" products then using that same philosophy we should also not be selling anything to foreign countries either. I would suspect that a lot of jobs would be eliminated and a lot of companies would be severly hurt financially if that were to happen.

Buy whatever you wish, but remember the rules for stating "Made in USA" on a product do not necessarily mean "entirely made in USA".

Didn't that just make you feel all warm and cozy inside when they told us to get our books in order??

At the expense of getting this deleted, I will say "NO" more.
