We're at Tropic Star and like it. Lots to do and close to a lot of things.

As has been said many times on this forum is find a spot for a week or so and check out the others. I spent nearly a year on this site and other forums studying different RV parks and found one we liked and reserved for a week to check the others by driving through and talking to residents. What you want and what we want are probably quite different. You will not be able to go through all the parks in the RGV in a week-too many! So what you like and what we are looking for is probably not the same. We stayed for the whole time in our original spot. Only found one we liked better but couldn't get in because there was a waiting list.

My only suggestion would be to start out somewhere in the middle (Donna) or vicinity. If you start in SPI or Mission you won't be able to have enough time to find what you like before you return home!

Just by doing a quick drive thru and having knowledge of the monthly rate, it wont take long to decide which type of park and price point suits your needs the best. Its sort of like driving thru neighborhoods when looking for a home. Most can tell fairly quickly which neighborhoods arent going to meet their expectations.

We like Llano Grande in Mercedes. A little out of the way, but close to Progresso Nuevo. Also a little expensive, like Victoria Palms, etc.

I would recommend Alamo Rec Veh Park in Alamo, just east of McAllen. It is a mid-priced park with lots to do, central location for anything in the Rio Grande Valley and a short drive to a Mexico crossing that is safe and convenient. Call the park office and tell them that Dave recommended the park. We've been here 9 years. Good luck.
