I need to put a 4 pin trailer connection on my '95 Jeep Wrangler. I'm having trouble identifying the correct wires to splice into. I have a shop manual, but the wire colors don't match the schematic. I have a Multi Meter, but unsure how to check. Can I pierce the ground wire, then check for current for turn, tail, and brake wires? Which setting on meter should I use? Thanks

Easiest way is to get one of the Hopkins Easy Connectors. They are vehicle specific and they make one for Wranglers. It plugs into your existing wiring harness and requires no spicing. Good luck, Lobo

Where is the connector on the harness? I found the bundle of 7 wires that run to the rear, then drop into the fender area.

I think the factory wiring harness on the Wrangler has flat connectors so somewhere under the back end you should see them but they may be taped up with the wiring and hard to see. To be sure, Google "Hopkins Trailer Wiring" and on their site. You can see the harness for your vehicle and it should show installation instructions. Also, WalMart and most any of the auto parts stores carry a selection of the these adapters but usually just the most common. Hope this helps.

If the Wrangler has a connector recepticle already installed, there are adapters (7to4, etc) available at automotive stores.

I Google'd them, and they list an application. But, no installation link. I wonder if connection is in behind left tailight? That is where the wiring for right side splits off. I live 30 miles from any big auto stores, so I'm limited to access.

You can connect one lead of your DMM to a good ground, then probe the harness at the left tailight with the running lights on. Use a small straight pin to pierce the insulation. When you find hot, that's the running lights. Then do the same with the left and right turn signals.

Try to probe for power at a connector or light socket etc. If you pierce insulation it will lead to corrosion and troubles in the future.

Not sure if you already have a 7 pin round connector or not. As others have said, the best way is to get an adaptor from 7-4. If you do not have the 7 pin connector, then try this http://www.etrailer.com/pc-VWH~118356.htm. I used this for my buddies truck. Works awesome, and there is no splicing involved. Jerry.

The web site shows a picture of the harness for the Wrangler and the male and female flat connectors pictured are the same as what's on yours. They're under the rear somewhere, maybe stuffed behind something. Lobo
