Then you need to read it again.

There is no scam here. You pay $5,300. You then pay $100 a month for 27 months. The cart is in your possession. You drive it and use it for 27 months. at the end of 27 months, you have now spent $8,000 ($5,300 down and $100 a month for 27 months). Now, you can be done and you own the cart, or, the guy will buy your cart for $2,000.

Why is this so hard to understand?????

You've got it backwards. You buy the cart for $8,000. You get a $5,300 rebate, bringing your out of pocket to $2,700. You lease it to him for his use for 27 months at $100/month bringing your out of pocket to $0. However, you have no use of it for the 27 months that it is leased to him. Now, after 27 months you can either take possession or sell it back to him for $2,000. What is unclear is who makes the decision whether you get the cart or the $2,000.

If we find any of these deals in the Las Vegas area I will post the hard facts. Then go to all my neighbors and thank them. Having been a business owner I know somebody, somewhere, has unknowingly paid for my street legal "golf cart". And I am grateful.

They're only legal in Nevada and most other states on roadways with a 25 MPH or less speed limit. Lots of them around Sun City Summerlin that run up to Safeway. Many wrecks too.

We were in ADA and stopped in his place. I only had a few minutes, but he is a very informed guy. we were told the fed tax credit is 4000 and if you are a oklahoma resident they have another tax credit of up to 4000 depending on your taxes. the carts have headlights, taillights, turn signals, license plates, horns, etc and are street legal (well at least were street legal in sept)for streets that speed limit is 45 or less. no air no heat. price tag was 8000. so if you qualified for the max tax credits it would be like getting it for next to nothing.

Might want to re-check that OK speed limit. It's 35 and the carts are limited to 25 MPH capable.

It's not a scam and it's our money paying for it (most of us anyway) (just like cash for clunkers) and it isn't just golf carts.

Just bought one. Didn't even know about the tax credit. Bought it for tailgating at gator games and driving around everglades city and chokoloskee. When you get your golf cart upgraded to street legal you have to take to dmv and have inspected. At that time you get a VIN.

that's the way I see it. seems to me that it would be simpler to just buy a 3 year old used cart and have it for use, rather than just get a beat up old one that has had the heck used out of it.
the old saying, If it sounds too good to be true applies here IMHO.

Didn't read the article but my neighbor told me that a Bad Boy also qualifies for this. He said that the dealer he bought his from called him trying to get him in a new one and gave him this sales pitch.

I question what kind of shape the golf car would be in after 27 months of Lease usage. You are leasing the car to a guy for $100/month that he is probably renting out for $50-100/day to people who have no interest in taking care of it. If you get it back, I'll bet you will at least have to replace the batteries and maybe the motor. I might consider buying one and applying the rebate and then using it, but never the lease back plan. This guy is getting your $8000 cart for basically nothing.
