In KS a trailer under 2k does not need a license tag.

I popped into this forum to ask a question and saw this topic. I think I can state unequivocally that I have a small camper--a 13' Scamp! It looks like a toy when parked between the monster RVs that populate most campgrounds! On the other hand, I can back into every site with ease and don't have to worry about taking down tree limbs or breaking off a TV antenna in the process.

Mine is box of 16 and 21 over all and love it, just right for the two of us, but moved up to a f-150 to tow with as the jeep cherokee was under powered and was a tail waging the dog situation. As for the trailer it has all we need and then some.

Our Fun Finder T-139 is 139 inches long -- less than 12 feet -- it not a small trailer -- it is a big ice chest. But we sure have fun in it:

We had one of these camp beside us a couple of weeks ago. t@b Not sure if it looked tiny next to our 32' box/36' overall or if ours looked gigantic compared to it. But he said he had to trade up trucks because his '08 F150 w/ v6 had trouble towing it. I just laughed considering what I'm pulling with my Silverado. He ended up with another 150 w/ the 5.4 and auto.
Either way it goes, I would classify the t@b as a small...um...tiny camper.

Agree with those that use number of axles as indicator of size...
Single axle is "small."
I would also suggest that weight of loaded trailer as compared to weight of tow vehicel is a factor in determining size.
That is, anything towed with a loaded weight (including tongue weight) greater than that of the tow vehicle might be considered small rather than large.

Huh?
I think you've gotten something crossed up or left out.
How about length? If TT is shorter than TV, it's small.

OK, here is try #2. Basically...
... if what you are towing weighs more than your tow vehicle... it might not be considered small.
Small trailers are somewhat forgiving. You don't necessarliy need extra WD and sway control equipment for "small" trailers. However, if you are not properly set up to tow something larger the "tail" can easily wag the "dog."
Did that help?

We are in a 16' Scamp, and would consider it small. 21' is not large, but is it small. I'd say mid-sized, 25' for sure is mid-sized. IMHO of course.
But like this post has proven, small is in the eye of the beholder.
I took a photo of this tear drop which overnighted at a Wal-Mart where we stayed, because it make ours not the smallest one there.

The Teardrops trailers, even the one made to be towed by cars, are normally the smallest ones.
Here are some small molded fiberglass travel trailers:
Scamp, Casita, Oliver, Escape, EggCamper and Trillium.
Our Scamp
Our 16' Scamp has the Side Dinette, & we keep the bed as a bed. Layout 6 ******** Video
It would also depend on how many you will be sleeping in them.
The standard Scamps have narrow beds, my only gripe with them. But can be gotten wider in the Custom wooden interior ones. Custom Deluxe Wood Interiors
There are some small non-molded fiberglass trailers as well. The Fun Finder X are one and I have also seen 7' wide trailers Cikira. There would be more of these hybrids out there I would think.
A little larger TTs, the Lance , the new one at 20'9" looks good, and the 19'10" Bullet by Keystone is another example. Bullet
Are there any other small trailers out there I have missed, ones no longer than 21' total length hitch to bumper?
