I currently have Michelin XZA 225/70- 19.5 tires. They are in great shape but are now 7 years old. It appears XZA is no longer available in my size, so I trying to decide between the XRV abd XZE. I can't see much difference. Cost is approx $360 mounted and balanced.

Does anyone have experience with either tire?

Thanks

Just repalced 6 22.5 XZA with XRV. The XRV is suposed to have stuff in the rubber to make them last longer while the the RV is parked. most tires don't need this as the tires get used enough to exercise the rubber. Many RVs don't get used enough to exercise the rubber and it "dries out"

I have 15K miles on the XZEs and really like them. They are tough, snooth riding tires.

The XRV is the tire that has all the sidewall (zipper) blowouts and Michelin says the RV owner is at fault for overloading it or under inflating it, not Michelin. The built it with a thinner sidewall for a softer ride and if you curb it, expect it to blow very quickly. I would not put any tire on my coach that has RV printed on the sidewall. ALL truck tires now have special compounds built into the rubber for UV protection, not just RV tires. The XZE is a much better tire than the XRV.

I have 6 245-70R19.5 XZE's on my gas Dutc Star. They are stable, quiet and good riding. They were installed on my coach after a set of Bridgestone R-250's proved unstable for me. Tires are now 18 months old and I am very satisfied.

I have 47 thousand miles on XRV 19.5 front tires 5000 lb. front axle.

They still look and drive very well. More than 1/2 the tread left. Too old to mention here. I'm not on the 5 year through away plan. now after this post I can expect my first flat or blowout.

Goldenman:

I watch tire posts very carefully and I also think Michelin to be the class of the tire industry. They are all I use. With that said there have been some recent posts about sidewall blowout problems with the XRV because of a thin sidewall used to enhance ride. Is there anything to this, I don't know? Many times what is posted here can't stand up in the light of day. I'm simply posting this to admonish you that if you consider the XRV to do some research to see if there is a problem.

I had XRV tires on my 2000 DP and one blew at five years. I had just noticed small cracks on the sidewalls. I replaced them with XZE which are truck tires. The XZE are just a little harder riding than the XRV but they are fine. They have just a bit more rolling resistance also but it did not show up in my MPG. I am at 4+ years on my XZE and see no signs of sidewall cracking. The sidewalls of XZE are thicker than XRV to resist curb scuffing that trucks ofter have. I will try to buy XZE next time but XRV would also be acceptable, they are the only two that fit my MH. AS for doing research on XRV I believe that Michelin has fixed the problem since there are no more threads about XRV sidewall zipper failure. After reading posts on this forum for years I conclude that Michelin is one of the best tire companies available to RVers.

I overlooked the post from The Texan when I posted. He made the XRV better than I did, as did JWalker.
