I have a 50 amp outlet at my home. Can I use an adapter to go from 50 amp to 30 amp without causing any damage? Thanks

Yes. Walmart has a pigtail to change from 50 to 30. So does Camping world or any RV supply. Good to take with you when you camp. Sometimes the 50 amp outlet may be in better shape than the 30.
On edit.........Just make sure your 50 amp outlet is 110 NOT 220!!!

possibly - what kind of 50 amp outlet? (How many "holes" does it have for the plug to plug in to?)

As said above, maybe. I have a 50 amp outlet in my house that would NOT be usable with the standard RV dogbone adapter. If you do not know exactly what wire size is used for common, IMO call an electrician to remove the socket and look.

Having a 50A outlet for your dryer or maybe a welder would have 220VAC, which won't work for you, unless the wiring is changed at the box.

You can convert that to a 30A outlet, by changing it from 220VAC to 120VAC, and replacing the "50A" outlet with a 30A outlet. The money you would spend for a "pigtail" would pay for the new outlet.
If you are not familiar with electricity, you will probably want to get a licensed Electrician in to make the change for you.

Yes, no worries.

If the standard 50/30 RV adapter works it is fine. (NEMA14-50 to NEMA30-TT)

The key is what outlet do you have there. In general, if the standard adapter that you buy at Wal-Mart or the RV store will plug into it to connect to your 30A cord, then it should be safe. A 50A RV outlet is what is known as a 120/240V-50A outlet and if properly installed, it is the only plug with the pin configuration that your RV adapter will connect to.

To be safe, the only thing to do is to connect the adapter to the 50A outlet and then measure from pin to pin to check for proper voltage. Measuring on your adapter once connected it should read 120V from the hot to either the ground pin, (the round one) or to the neutral. From neutral to ground should read 0V or very nearly so. That is the only way to be sure.

Outlets should always be properly wired, but electricians do make mistakes and amateurs sometimes try and fix things they don't understand.

If it is a 3 pin 50 amp outlet, not without much modification. If it is a 4 pin 50 amp outlet, probably.
