We just looked at a Big Horn and like the floor plan but not too sure about the construction. We do a lot of towing and not sure how this rig will hold up. They use a OSB instead of plywood with foam between the layers. Not sure how good this is. It also has a Lippert frame and have read a lot of problems with this frame.

Tom & Dianne;

We have the (2009) 3385RL Bighorn and could not be happier with it. Construction of the FW is the best in its class. I hope you picked up the brochure Heartland has on their 5th wheels and this shows how tough the roof and floor system is built. Check them out on the internet at www.HEARTLANDSRVS.com

Heartland has gone from a nobody upstart RV company just 2 years ago to the fastest growing RV manufacturer, led by some guys with a lot of RV manufacturing experience with such companies as Newmar and Forest River.

OSB panels have no internal gaps or voids, and are water-resistant, uses waxes and resins impregnated into the real wood chips, although they do require additional membranes to achieve impermeability to water and are thus are not recommended for exterior use.

The plywood you are talking about is 1/8" Luan board, which delaminates in the presence of water and is used by some as backer board for laminated walls.

We too have a Heartland Bighorn, an 08' 3600RL. We have been fulltiming in this unit for 2 1/2 years and it has held up beautifully! We have put more than 35,000 miles on it and have towed it all over the country, as we run a small business and vend at shows and events.

We have quite a few other friends in the Heartland family who also live in their units and tow them extensively, who are also quite pleased with their units. Are they perfect, NO. But you won't find any units out there, no matter what the price point, that are.

We have found the insulation factor and the comfort to the be quite good...we do very well in temps dipping down almost to zero and temps reaching to over 100. We do, however, have dual pane windows and a second A/C to accomplish this.

We like this unit so much we've just added a hydraulic leveling system and some other nice modifications because we know it will last, and serve us well for years to come. As for the Lippert frame, we've had no problems other than a busted spring and "flat" axle which Lippert took care of. In my opinion, Lippert gets a bad "rep" because of certain manufacturer specific (not Heartland) problems they had in the past...hope this helps!

We have a 2010 Bighorn 3055. Have already spent a lot of travel time in it. LOVE it and would recommend a Bighorn to anyone.

I would buy a bighorn in a second. i was looking between Jayco and bighorn. i went with the jayco as we have a dealer 10 miles away and no bighorn dealer close. I didn't buy it from my local dealer as he is a crook but i will bring it to have warranty work.

I have been looking at Cameo, Hitchhiker LS and Jayco Designer and I like the Bighhorn floor plan better than the Designer we looked at in Asheville, NC a couple weeks ago. I just got a price from the dealer and we a long way apart. I probably going to wait until we go to Florida in Jan. and look at the Hitchhiker and Cameo.
