Hi I just removed my battery for the winter and noticed the battery box was half full of water. Is there supposed to be holes in the bottom for water to drain out? Also the box was not attached to the frame of the TT. Should it be? Thanks

I will probably get flamed for this answer but here goes. I have a Carson Highway Hauler Cargo Trailer The battery box is not bolted down it's held down with a strap. As for water being in the box I would say maybe you should drill a couple of holes in the bottom of it.
Flame on guys.

I drilled holes in the bottom for drainage. My battery boxes are held to the trailer with cloth straps now, but I just ordered a couple of steel brackets to lock them on. Here is where I ordered the brackets from:

The battery box on my TT was screwed down (also holes for drainage) at an angle cuz the little battery frame is to big for the box....so I took it loose & put 2.... 1/4" lattice strips across the bottom of the frame & set the box on top of em and use the strap + an extra strong rubber bungie strap to hold it all in place... no movement what so ever

I screwed mine down to the frame with self tapping metal screws. Then put a dab of silicone on top of each to seal them up!!

Flame on guys. No flames from me. I have 2 boats and the TT and all have nice 1/4" holes in the bottom of the battery boxes via my drill. Without them water is a constant issue, especially in the boats.

Don't really know why you expected a "flame". I drilled holes in the bottom of my battery box for the same reason, to drain the water. Mine is not bolted to the frame. I figure the weight of the battery is sufficient to hold it down.

I use 2 nylon straps to hold down the big box I use for 2 Trojan T-105's. No holes in the bottom of the box. I don't think I've ever gotten water inside.

I agree that drilling holes is a reasonable good idea but having a properly fitting lid should keep most water from getting in to begin with. It's not absolutely necessary to had the box attached to the frame but I've always preferred it. those cheep nylon straps are nowhere NEAR secure enough to hold $300.00 worth of batteries on my trailer so I have a plank bolted to the trailer and the boxes are screwed to the plank then the lids are attached and strapped in place.

no flames from me either. But i never flame anyways..
I would drill holes for drainage. I would be flamed if it didn't already have holes. I would also screw it down. Not to sure if i would want the battery sitting and bouncing on the screw heads though. Maybe drop in a pc of 1/4 plywood as a base so the battery won't poke holes from the screw heads.
