I have an 06 Duramax with the 26 gal tank. I have always been afraid of doing anything substantial to my trucks because I'm afraid it will introduce problems.

Question. Can I put a huge tank (40 - 50 gal) in the place of the original tank? Will it cause problems with the fuel gage or something else? Any idea as to cost?

I don't want a tank in the bed of the truck. I'm afraid of those in the case of a wreck. Heaven forbid!

I think there's a company called TITAN that makes extra large fuel tanks for all the Big 3 brands.
Supposedly mount in factory location, and can be done in your driveway. Think the Chev goes up to 45 Gal
Cost was on the steep side as I recall...thinking $900-1000

YES,, I used a titan tank in my 2007 Ram

https://www.titanfueltanks.com/default.htm

Bad,, I had problems with it from day one,, leaking,, I had the installers re and re it about 4 times over the last three years ( got truck in Oct 06) last time about two months ago,, it leaked again,,, I was very very upset,, so much so I was going to pull it out and replace it with the stock one..

THE GOOD
Then I thought ,, I might as well email the manufacturer about my problems,, so I did I included who installed and and when I got the tank...

With in 15 minutes I had a response, and then with in an hour a telephone call,
They were so upset that I had to put up with any grief from their tank,, they were also very upset that I did not contact them sooner with my problem.

Just last week, a brand spanking new tank arrived here and was installed ,, all my problems fixed,, and all at NO COST TO ME ( just shipping )!!!!

So TITAN TANKS are my only choice for larger capacity,,

I always think about your problem that the fix would have been to buy the long bed truck with 34 gallon fuel tank.

If they were that much of a risk I doubt they'd be available. I'm quite satisfied with my 50gal inbed tank. Transferflow is a good company and you may be able to spec out your system on their website.

I had Transfer Flow install a 46 Gal. tank in place of the original in my '03 F-350 Power Stroke. This was about 3 years ago. Have had no problems at all since. It is real nice to have the range.

I have a in bed tank from TRANSFERFLOW. 75 gal + oem 35, pulling a 37' Jayco 5th wheel. no problems, automatic refil into oem, so I do not need to stop for 1500 miles. at the factory Chico, Calif, they have pictures from accidents that show compleat cab crushes and the tank is still intact. they advertise only D.O.T. approved for the 50 states

52 gal Titan tank in the truck in my sig. Now I can easily pull 500 miles before looking for fuel. Range to empty is 650 miles towing and almost 1000 without the fiver.
Fuel gauge works fine.(The sender unit travels the same depth of tank, just slower).
Expensive at almost $1000 but I have no regrets.
2-3 hour install if you do it yourself (with a helper).

Go on line to "transferflow.com". The best in the west. Transfer Flow Inc. is located in Norther Calif., Chico Calif. to be exact. If you call them and tell them the year and model of your truck they will tell what variety of choices you have. I have a 64 Gal. tank that fits in the same location as my orignal tank(puny 34 gal. tank) was located. They wil also mail the tank to your area or install it in Chico in about 5 hrs. I have an 04 Dodge 3500 truck. Cost is about $1000
