Extra capacity how ever you get it is wonderful. I have an ATTA 45g tank/tool box in the bed and really like the range it gives me.
We towed from Houston to Caddo Lake, drove all around the area for a few days then towed up to Pettit Jean in Arkansas and drove about 200 miles up there before we filled up. Reversed the trip and got back to Houston with a half a tank left..
In Houston it's also nice to have that added capacity in case we ever have to run in front of a hurricane like Rita again.

I put a 45 gal replacement tank in my 01 duramax. Best thing I ever did. I had done at the Transflow plant in CA when I was there back in 02.

If you really want bragging rights on spending the bucks go transferflow. I am not saying anything bad or good aobut the product. I just was not willing to spend my money that way.

Transfer Flow makes the highest quality auxillary tanks with highly professional staff for installation. I can personally vouch for the character and dedication of the owners of Transfer Flow having had a professional relationship with them for years. Outstanding!

Good point you make. I came over to the GM side of things from the blue oval where they know that truck owners like to drive their trucks for awhile before they fuel...or at least that was my impression as all of my Fords had large capacity tanks. My Excursion that I still have in the garage(now my dw's daily driver) has a 44 gallon tank. When I was buying my truck I didn't even think about asking how large the fuel tank is....I made an incorrect assumption that it would be a larger one.
Fast forward three years. I find myself loving this truck for all but the fuel capacity. It pulls wonderful, has more acceleration than my blue ovals did under load or empty, and I don't want to trade just for a larger fuel cell. So I, like the OP did, come to this board filled with experienced people from all walks of life and ask if anyone has experience with the tank he is looking at. I am curious as well to the answers as I am thinking about the same modification to mine.
I called Titan a year or so ago and they did not have any installation shops in my area but were willing to give me a break on the price if I did it myself. I wasn't willing to part with the money at the time... but things change.
I just test drove an '06 dually and would rather keep the '05 I bought new and make it work for a few more years by doing a mod like this than spend money on something that someone else traded in. JMHO

Just remember extra fuel at 8 lbs. per gallon comes off your capacity. If you add a 50 gallon in bed tank it holds 400 lbs. of fuel plus about 75 lbs. for the tank. Can you afford to give up nearly 500 lbs. of carring capacity?

Thanks, I'm still thinking about it. Years ago, I came upon a bob tail truck wreck where the driver had been drenched with fuel and was burned to an unrecognizeable shape. He was trying to tell me something before he died. Horrible! I still have visions of wrecking and that truck bed tank draining fuel over the wife and I and and igniting.

And don't forget that most of these tanks are rated for diesel fuel only due to safety and evaporative emission regulations.
