If you ever see a 1 ton Toyota Diesel it will be just a Photo. Toyota will never build a 1 Ton Diesel pick-up type to sell on the open maket. For that matter I think Toyota will slowly stop making Trucks. GBY....

Sheesh, some days are harder than others to be an economics teacher!
BTW, one day I would like to buy one of those Saltillo, Mexico-assembled Dodge CTDs. The thing is is that we made TVs.... If Japan wanted to compete and they did, fine, let the best win... But it should be a LEVEL playing field.. Japan takes care of its elderly very well, and their companies did take care of their employees as well...Here, we have Unions, and a much higher standard of living... We send a Freighter to Japan filled with oranges from California... the oranges ROTTED on the Dock in Japan... The Government claimed OUR ORANGES were too big for smaller Japanese mouths... Toshiba took our secrets regarding why American SUBMARINES were so quiet and sold them to RUSSIA.. This is NOT FAIR TRADE OR FREE TRADE... This is Giving away your Country...This is no worse than a foreign power overtaking us and Destroying our way of life..Compete and trade Fine... But it MUST BE FAIR.... otherwise, we lose ....

Absolutely 100% correct. You never will see a Toyota 1-Ton diesel IMO.
Why would Toyota want to sell a 1-Ton deisel? The 1-Ton diesel market is very small compared to the 1/2 ton market. It's considered a "niche" market. This small market is served very well by Ford, Fiat, and Chevy. Toyota goes where the big volume numbers are, and it sure ain't the 1-Ton Diesel market.

As an Economics teacher you should recognize that this is precisely how China's modern economy was built and is sustained. In fact this holds true for all of the BRIC block.
You think that just maybe they understand something that we don't?

Simply sounds like a manufacturer following the market. Isn't this what got so many manufacturers (not just the domestics) in trouble when gas spiked along with intrest in fuel efficent cars.

So you think that this recession is the time to trigger a global trade war? Really?
We better be nice to the PRC. They might stop financing our budget deficits!

Really, What do WE need from them.... Pay off the debt and we can do much better ourselves... Why should we have them MAKE EVERYTHING FOR US??? Why, I don't get it... If it puts Americans out of work, creates HUGE trade Deficits, WE don't need it... or their labor force.. Goodyear tires were made here, BRING THE JOBS BACK and they can make their own brand... Why give them OURS???

I'm pretty sure the men and women employed by those Foreign NAMEPLATE factories located in various states and Canada are mighty glad some of us feel free enough to purchase the brand we want regardless of "NAMEPLATE". Those paychecks, taxes, and circulated money strengthen, not weaken our country. "PRIDE IN YOUR COUNTRY"? I and many other veterans who have fought on foreign lands certainly earned that "PRIDE". However I will continue to choose my vehicle like I chose my blue jeans and wrist watch. I'll get the one I like at the price I want to pay. I will consider where it's made but that will NOT be the final decision maker, and believe me, many nights in the Viet Nam jungles carrying a medical aid bag and a M16 earned me the right to have and share that opinion. Pardon me now while I put the Hyundai Genesis in the Garage next to the BMW Z4. The Mexican built Dodge Ram will have to stay out in the driveway.

True it sells a lot of cars where it does make a profit. On the other hand the "Heavy Duty Truck" market is more the 10 ton plus one. Where Hino)owned primarily by Toyota) is trying to catch Isuzu as the best performing Japanese Truck Maker globally.

RetiredbutWorking wrote: Keep on talking trash about Toyota. In reality, they are marketed as any other light duty truck; good for a run to the grocery store or a couple of boards at Home Depot. What I see on this forum, is a bunch of 1 ton types that are scared that if Toyota ever made a 1 ton truck it would eat their little American made truck for brunch. It is like they are some kind of urban Daniel Boone that only gets to be a man when his wife lets him haul the camper to the local state park on weekends. They try to over compensate by buying a big honking truck thinking it will keep them from suffering from a dose of Freudian penis envy. Let me guess, you own a Toyota.
