My Atwood water heater works fine on electric, but recently won't stay lit on propane ... will catch for between 5 & 20 seconds and then goes out. Is there a simple solution or way to check this problem. I know this post should be in tech section but seems like this forum is read more ... thanks for any suggestions. and yes it is full of propane ..

I've had a similar problem on a couple of trailers. In both cases, it came down to the thermo couple not being positioned properly and giving a false reading to the burner circuit. That would be the first thing I would check into.
Also, attwood had a problem in the past where the insulator on the igniter cracked, allowing the strength of the ignition charge to bleed off.
Only other thing I can think of would be a faulty regulator, or dirty/ plugged gas orifice.
Is it rusty? That can short out the sensor that detects the flame, and cause it to shut off.
Unplug the circuit board wiring, and plug it back in. This can sometimes dislodge the stuff on the contacts, and make it work for another year or two. Look for a spider web, this can block fuel flow.
Blow it out with a small amount of compressed air - if you have an air compressor.
Then try it again. If it will not stay lit, then the flame sensor probably should get replaced - if it is igniting but not staying lit. If it is not igniting at all, then the circuit board might need to be replaced (assuming that the stove and other things work and there is the correct propane pressure and the voltage is around 12.5 VDC.)
