I have a 2003 Fleetwood Flair. The headlights are on when the switch is on, my question is there anything I can do to keep the lights off where I have control of headlights by using my light switch. Any help please.

You may have some sort of daytime running lamp module installed. Find it and disconnect it. May help if you mention what type of chassis you have.

Not sure it is legal to disconnect Day Time Running Lights! They are controlled by a small Relay usually located under the Hood or Dash.

They are called "Daytime running lights" or "DRLs". They should be at a reduced brightness from full-on lights. Many studies suggest they improve vehicle visibility in low-light situations and are a legal requirement in many countries (including Sweden and Canada).
Why do you want to turn them off?

Most DRL's do not come on until the parking brake is released.

Well. the reason the headlights come on (often at reduced power) when the ignition is on is called Daytime Running Lights.
Several studies have been done which prove, beyond a doubt that running with lights on is way safer than without. So My advice is to leave excellent alone and don't turn them off.
I have read all the arguments against DRL's and so have the enginneers at GM
I (and they) remain convinced that is is way safer to run lights ON for safety!

I recall, when GM made them standard in the mid 90s the dealers were authorized to disconnect them if customers complained.
Not sure if that's true anymore.
Also to legality, they fall into a strange category. They are not required by law (in the US) but if the vehicle IS so equipped, then there are standards they are required to meet!
(Which, to keep life simple as always, are DIFFERENT from the Canadian requirements!)
But I strongly doubt anyone is going to get a ticket for diconnecting them!

Thanks for all the input. I like the idea of running my headlights in the daytime but I want control over them. If I pull into a rest area or RV park and want to run my engine I don't want the lights on and bother anyone. I understand its a safety feature but I drove a truck for 40 yrs. and I had no probably running the lights in the daytime for safety. Thanks again for all the advice and info.
