Just noticed that some mice had chewed wires under my trucks hood. How can i keep them or chipmucks out from under the hood. During the off season I use the truck about once a month.

Set some mouse traps around. Sticky traps work great because you can put them most anywhere.

I have seen people leaving the hood up. They say it stops them from chewing on the wires.

I have taken large pill bottles drilled holes in them and filled them with mothballs and place them around the engine compartment. I have them under the hood of my tractor

Get a cat! When i moved to the country, my neighbor told me squirrels and chipmunks would be a problem. My wife grew up in the country and said we needed a cat to keep the mice out of the house. To date, 12.5 years, never had a problem. Our cat even cured the neighbor's issues - until they got a Newfoundland. Mice/chipmunk ate his truck wiring and leather seats. He told me my cat wasn't doing his job. I asked him if he had any problems prior to getting the dog.

Does leaving the hood up give the hawks a chance to pick a mouse out of the engine compartment?

Moth balls work as suggested. If you dont like the smell and few Bounce dryer sheets also work well.

I tried moth balls and no success. So I use mouse traps, that work well, just check frequently as when you trap one you need to dispose of it before it becomes rank.
