generic silicone spray works fine for me, keeps seals soft and doesn't attract/hold dirt.

My manual says silicon spray a couple of times a year. It does not leave a mess. The vaseline would hold grit and you would be grinding the sides every time you move them.

Not to confuse the issue but, did this same salesman appear as though he was still using Brylcreem on his hair? Probably a "grease fetishist". Good grief!
What a nifty way to attract and trap every bug out there and later make sure the things are dragged into the RV every time you retract your slideouts.

Not to mention Vaseline is "Petroleum" based. Nasty mess aside, would that not accelerate deterioration of the seals. Ditto on the silicone spray treatment.

It's pretty common for a salesman to have a jar of vaseline handy

Ditto.
*NO* Vaseline
*NO* ArmorAll - or other petro based product.
"AnnorTom" - take note:
Use of ArmorAll on various products -like tires- will void warranty!
~
Go to 303 Products dot com for info on their "stuff".
Clickey
They will send you a sample pkg of their products ($5. for shipping),
and you can usually find 303 Aerospace Protectant at Ace Hdwe for a more expensive "test".
~
BTW (Bruce) - besides the salesman's "BOHICA" Vaseline use (already mentioned), think the "hair stuff" would be: "LB Butch Wax"
