And old study, but answers some of the same questions raised in this thread.

(Besides, it's your tax dollars at work)

Diesel Idle Study on DOD Generators.

The anti-idle legislation of today is primarily focused on pollution in the inner cities and fuel consumption.

That is all... have fun with it.

If I left it out, there wouldn't be an RV sitting there the next morning, nuff said.

Scanned the study and it clearly says not a problem. Intuitively, anyone who has been around a truck or rest stop and has seen all the engines idling for hours on end, would have to surmise that it doesn't do serious damage.

There's nothing worse than trying to walk into a health care center when one or more "senior busses" are idling by the front door. My lungs really complain.

or the diesel next to you in the campground sits and idles for 30 minuts while they unhook..and to be down wind next door..it is a choking affair....

The thread "question" was about WEAR on the engine. Not waste of fuel; not "smoke" thusly generated; not about noise...etc...etc.

So we have determined from a few sources posted here that WEAR is minimal at the worst and almost non-existant at the best...regardless of what any engine maker might PUBLISH in their engine documentation. The fact that an owner SHOULDNT DO IT ( idle a long time) wasnt and isnt the question.

So if JT wants to he can close this thread because we have recieved the info asked for.
