I lock the front door of the motorhome when we take off. Use the dead bolt. Whenever it rains a lot I have a hard time getting the key into the lock. When not raining it is good. what is causing this? Any suggestions to deal with it/

Thanks.

I don't know about that issue but try spraying some lube into the keyhole before it rains next time to see if that helps. Good luck!

I would spray some lube in the lock and see if that helps.

Most lubes that you can spray into the lock can attract dirt and cause more issues in the long run.

Go to a locksmith, or look in the locks area of a home store, and get a small tube of powdered graphite. It comes with a small nozzle you can insert in the lock, and puff in some of the graphite powder. Run the key in and out a few times and it will do wonders to free things up.

Graphite is the way to go, rather than something like WD-40, oil, silicone spray, or the like.

Hi, ran into the same problem... I lubed all the locks... Put key in partially and sprayed key ridge.... Inserted key in and out a few times. Issue resolved. I agree use graphite spray if possible

Have a wonderful day..

Another vote for graphite. I use it on the RV and stick home locks regularly to keeps the locks from sticking.

Copied from a locksmith site:

"Some lock manufactures actually strongly recommend against using graphite in the locks they make and tell people to use a teflon based lubrication. Medeco manufactures high security locks and uses what I think was a teflon-based lubricant (you can contact them at their website www.medeco.com to find out exactly what it is).

Always try to use what the manufacturer recommends to keep from decreasing the life of the lock and/or the finish"

A dry teflon lube is also a good choice. I just don't think that any oil, silicone, solvent, or other liquid lubricant is a good idea. They may work in the short term, but may actually increase the gumming up of the lock over the long term.
