My mother's brother was a German Soldier during WW2. He was standing behind a tree smoking a cigarette when an explosion happened from an American morter shell. The tree saved his life, but his left arm and left leg got hit and was pretty destroyed. He passed out. He woke up in an American POW camp and was transported to Columbus, Ohio until the war ended. He carried with him those battle scars the rest of his life. Of all the family members who served, he is the only one that was injured or captured.
There has been someone from my family or my wife's family serving in the military consecutively since 1935.
--- I think my entire family can say .... "You're welcome!"
