Has anyone heard of really short term workamping gigs? Like a week or 2? Not retired yet and only have limited ability to be away from my job.

Also since this is my vacation, I'd like to minimize the work part of the camping.

Thanks,

I think your only chance of geting a position that short would be to just ask, as you stay at campgrounds, especially state or national campgrounds if they have any short term volunteer projects that they need someone for just a week or 2. Maybe someone just left or a bunch of picnic tables need painted or something. We have worked for as short as 7 weeks or so at the end of the summer season but that's considered pretty short. I think some state parks will allow hosting as short as 1 month.

projects might be your main choice.......you likely can't ask about short term needs cause those would be like come today......if you have a vacation time you might call a few places looking for a project they might have that can happen when you are ready.....like the other poster mentioned painting tables or/and buildings, reworking a water system, etc.

good luck/happy trails

And this kind of work would be done on a voluntary basis rather than non paid?

I would imagine that you would have zero possibility of being a CG host. However, if a CG (state or national) was short of people to help with a specific project on a time limited basis, then you might stand a chance.

Your best opportunity would be to personally visit a park you are interested in and talk to whoever handles workkampers.

What would be the goal of your workamping? Are you looking to make some added money? If so, the project idea is very possible, but that would require you vacation where the project was. Your line about minimizing the work part sounds scary. You are not going to get a lot a money for little work. Nobody is going to give you a site for nothing in return. Most campgrounds do not have a secret free loader program. Talk to most workampers and they will tell you they earn their site and income. Workamping is not a code word to get you 100% off your site rental and free money in your wallet. If you are truly interested in working a little on your vacation and you have some project skills, it could be very doable. We had a couple visit our park a few years ago. After registering, he offered to trim the trees in the park in exchange for his site rental. We later learned this man was in his late 70s. We took him up on his offer and a few hours later I went out on the grounds and saw him shirtless, cutting limbs like there was no tommorrow. He had six pack abs and was built like Schwazennegger, could have passed as a 25 year old model. My park never looked better. Great trade on my part, trees for site. Later his wife came in and laughing and saying that we had ruined her trip. I asked why and she explained that her husband was known as "Beaver Bob" and now he was all depressed that all the trees were trimmed and he had nothing to do. Seems that for Beaver Bob trimming trees was much more fun than any vacation and when the trees are done, so is that vacation stop. They were actually full timers who created a circuit built around trimming campground trees. When the trimming was done, so was the fun. They managed to stay around the area for a couple of days and then off they went, but not until the put me on the itinerary for 2010 and I promised to not trim those trees until the "beaver" returns.

As stated above; I am not sure what the goal is but if you are looking for something part time, chack with your local campgrounds. They may have a camp host position for weekends. As most campgrounds are busier on the weekends extra help may be needed and it is a good way to get experience and build your resume. This is just an option.
