when we place our 2" drop hitch into our receiver on the m/h there is a little play in it up and down and sideways. i called blue ox (that is our tow bar company) and asked them if there was a remedy. they sold me a hitch immobilizer for 50.00 which consists of a flat piece of metal with 2 holes in it in which a square U bolt goes over the hitch threw the holes and you tighten up on the nuts to tighten the hitch into the receiver.
seems to work OK at first but the first trip the bolt broke. i ordered another bolt at 22.00 dollars and that one broke also.
anyone have or use a better method to keep the hitch tightened up into the receiver to cut down on the play in it?
thanks

drill a hole in the receiver, weld a nut to the hole set a bolt into the nut and tighten, use a second nut on the bolt as a JAM nut to lock the bolt in place
these only have to be snug, I suspect you over tighten the factory version and stressed the bolts
Options, always have options, and the journey goes much smoother

Messed around with this problem on a pickup truck.
They are designed that way so I decided to accept the things I can not change on this one.

Second the weld beads. We had the opposite where we had to grind it down initially. I was a bit angry with the grinder then, but after reading your post, I realize how fortunate we were.

I can not recomend welding or drilling on the receive hitch. The bar and receiver are designed to have movement to prevent the it from seizing in the receiver.

Deadbeat & MrWizard s Ideas work. I have done both. I just remove the male part when not in use to avoid siezing.
The thought of liabilty did cross my mind if hitch failed? I do believe that failure is less a probility if the hitch is tight.
The welded one is on the hitch for the toad. The threaded one is one my motor cycle carrier. I think The threaded one is the weakest.
In my opinion, the 5/8 mild steel retainer pin will shear before the mods break.

Cut up a plastic bottle (I use an old oil bottle) into 1" shim strips, insert into sides and bottom. This should quiet the rattle.

I think I remember seeing a products that fits on the receiver and it will stop the movement. I think it was in Camping World, not sure but most all receiver hitches do the same. The bead welding is a sure fix. GBY.....
