My drop down receiver is also loose. The hitch shop I purchased it from said they are designed to be that way. 9,200 mile of using it that way with no problems. To be safe, I did use the stainless steel hitch pin for a little added strength. After all, the hitch pin is the only thing that has any strain on it, tightening the receiver has nothing to do with strength.

The slight amount of play is normal.. I have the Blue Ox Stablizer on my coach and am very very happy with it.. (IT is on the drop to MH joint since that one carries the bicycle)

Of course... One caution when using drop receivers.....

THe additional stress on the motor home's hitch from use of the drop.. Caused the cross bar that holds the receiver to seperate from the motor home.. I had a driver pull up beside me and yell FIRE. That got my attention.. Pulled off and found

1: The US_Gear breake system stopped the car in the exact place I'd have expected it to be if nothing had gone wrong

2: The back tire and wheel on the bicycle.. Will need replacement

3: The hitch was lying on the pavement. no longer attached to the MH save by the control wires for said brakes.

4: A very nice Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper (He got a thank you note or rather his boss did)

5: An auto repair shop at the other end of the exit ramp I'd pulled off on the start of

ANd a few miles later (The repair shop could not do the job) a professional welding/fabricating shop that re-built the hitch between 2 and 4 times stronger than the factory that made it originally.. Heavier metal, additional bracking and more.. Very professional job.. Simpson and Sons. Harrison IN as I recall

i see where this would clamp the hitch bar, but looks like a pain if you are a person who removes the hitch or carrier very often

because the clamp has to go inside the hitch bar being mounted into the receiver

I can not recomend welding or drilling on the receive hitch. The bar and receiver are designed to have movement to prevent the it from seizing in the receiver.

My thought also.

I got this it has worked really good ... ( you do have to re-tighten them after the first use)
