OK, here is what I have done: I put a cast iron skillet on the very bottom, below the burner, than on the grate, I put a baking stone, then I put a cooling grate on top of that, so the air circulates under whatever I am cooking. I also am careful about preheating the oven before I try to put something in. It seems to help a lot, I have not burned the bottome of the cornbread or the bisquits since I started this routine.

By using an oven thermometer you would probably find your oven is running a lot hotter than the dial indicates. We've found that simply lowering the temp to where it's what we WANT it to be instead of using the dial, it does a fairly good job. About the only OTHER concession DW makes is to rotate what she's baking when about half way through.

We tried the unglazed tile and it worked OK, until it broke into pieces and we had an oven full of gravel. I replaced that with an insulated baking sheet that with a little bend of the edge, fits between the burner and the rack. That seems to help a lot to redistribute the heat.
Also, after the glass oven door shattered for the second time,

I decided to replace it with a wood front. The original insulation in the oven door was a joke. This piece of cotton was it.
Replaced the original insulation with duct board . . .

and made this wood front.

This seems to have made the biggest difference and the oven heats much more evenly with less flame.

The double bottom AirGourmet type baking sheets (insulated type) seem to keep the burning food to a minimum. Placing a ceramic tile sometimes absorbs the oven heat and undercooks the bottom of food, or causes the food bottom to over heat and burn. Smaller sized air insulated baking sheets can be found at Camping World. We also have double bottom muffin pans!

Air bake cookie sheet works for me. Never any burned bottoms. You can bake biscuits or cookies on them directly or set a muffin tin, pie pan or casserole dish on top of it.

I would use the air bake sheets JT.. It will act as a cushion between the bottom of the oven and the dish. Second on the temperature guage.

First of all, I WOULD NOT REPLACE THE OVEN DOOR INSULATION WITH DUCT BOARD AND PUT A DECORATIVE BOARD ON THE OUTSIDE! You're looking for a fire there! Duct board is just that. It is meant for use in ducts, such as warm air ducts, NOT, oven doors that reach many times the temperature a furnace duct gets.
1. Make sure the door is fitting propperly, against the seal all the way around, and the seal is in good shape. Often the problem is just an adjustment on the door hinges. Too much air going out a bad door seal causes the burner to run too often heating the bottom of the pan, and improper air circulation inside the oven.
2. Get an oven thermometer, and check the temperature. Preheat the oven for at least 30 min, then check the temp and compare it to the dial setting. The dial has an adjustment on the back that allows for the proper setting up or down.
Use the middle to upper rack settings for best results.
That is how we do it in the appliance industry.

Before our new WW that has the Convection/Microwave, my DW said she made sure to always use the highest rack position in the gas oven and she started with approx 25 degrees lower than she would normally use and adjusted (learned) from there.
