Slatington Pa 18080

Hi All

I don't know a thing about motor homes or rv-ing and want to know what are the better quality (Monaco one?) ones out there and am going to live in it year around.

It will be parked in driveway at my parents house.

I want to spend between 30-50K on one. Like the slide out rooms and real wood cabinets a lot of them use.

I'd rather have a used high quality older (99 -03) one or so then a newer one of less quality.

32-38 foot is size I would like to get but the numbers can veer higher or lower then what I stated as far as feet go.

Gas?Diesel is a topic that goes on and on for sure but since it won't be driven a lot, most likely gas is my choice but I will not pass up a good diesel if the rest of vehical is to my taste.

I do like thew ones with slide out rooms and wood floors also.

I definitly want to buy from a dealer with warranty but if someone (here/ my moms neighbor) I know that maintaines it really nice I may go with that one.

How much bettewr milage do the disels get torwards the gas one? ANY INFO at all you can give ne is really appreciated,So may Brands/Models I have no clue where to start and don't
want one that is underpowered or woders on the road.

I think first you need to decide what you need in a floorplan and go from there. Do you need a washer/dryer? Some highend models even have dishwashers. There are tons and tons of floorplans out there and not all are suited to everybody. I would do some research first and look at all the diffrent options.

www.rvonline.com is a good place to start.

Best of luck!

You seem to know what you want. I prefer Dp myself.
BUY A GOOD SAM WARRANTY. DON'T TRUST A DEALER!!! Not all are bad but
getting timely service is hard to find with a dealer.

First thing to get across is that for what you want to spend, you are not going to find a diesel for that price especially a high end Monaco. You will find some nice gasoline motorhomes for that price. I believe Monaco made a gasoline motorhome called La Palma.

This is a good suggestion. Looking at any and everything at first. Even a $200K unit could give you ideas/features to look for in your price range. We used the web to look at 100's of options over about a month. It really helped us set realistic expectations in our price range. When we ran into a real deal regionally we were able to act on it because we saw we could get a much newer unit for less money than we were about to pay for a unit far away.

There may be $30K units you can fine that may be better than $50K units you find. Price does not insure much because prices are so wild from seller to seller.

I'm sure you've looked into this, but it deserves some attention here. You say you're going to park it in your parent's driveway. Are there full hookups available for you? If not, dumping will be a problem for you as you will have to move the mh every four or five days. Are there any city/county ordinances the prohibit or limit this driveway parking? Have you checked with the neighbors for their approval? Very important that you check these things out very carefully.

As for "better quality".... just about all mfg's provide a wide range of motor homes to choose from. Entry level, mid level, and upper level can be found as used for a fraction of their original price. If you don't plan on traveling, a gasser would probably more in line for you. There are some very nice gassers out there that probably would suit you very well.

Visit all the different rv retailers in your area and look for the floor plan that suits your needs.

Hope this helps

My wife and I have been through this all this past 9 months. We finally found a DP in our price range. You can full time in either gas or dp, if you are going to sit more than drive, as a rule, a gas will do fine. If you plan on driving long distances and frequently, a dp will make more sense. In your stated price range, 30 to 50K, you'll find older, higher quality units (mid to late 90s) with generally a single slide out. You'll even find some dps in this range and, as a rule of thumb, they will be a couple years older than their gas counterpart. Also, in your price range, you'll find newer mid-range gas units which will also relate to lower miles as well. Class A motorhomes don't give many variations on floor plans as you will have living room up front, kitchen in the center, bath behind the kitchen and bedroom last. Options, however, will affect the appearance and functionality of each layout. We ended up with a 2001 National DP with 2 slides and 37 ft.

Hi Gary, and welcome to the forum.

Are you sure you want a class A motorhome? There are some really nice class C's that might be more suited to what you plan. Look at some of them in your price range. You will be pleasantly surprised. Keep us posted on your search.

We live to the south of you, in Pennsylvania, and my biggest concern would be-do you have a way to keep the rv warm in the winter and to make sure nothing freezes? Slatington gets its fair share of snow and cold weather.

Check out my blog at http://community.fmca.com/index.php?autocom=blog&blogid=63&showentry=88 You may find some useful stuff on it. I talk about my purchase and decision making to delivery and the maintenance I have done after delivery.

I got a Holiday Rambler Vacationer. Same coach is available as a Monaco La Palma just different name on it. I am happy with it and it has everything we need. No washer/dryer but it is factory ready to install one if thats what you need. 2002 Holiday Rambler Vacationer Web Site
