I have much to share with the B-9 organizer. Please do not be afraid to nominate a site even if you do not live close to the site. JaneAnn and I were 375 miles from the campground and Barb and Florence were some 875 miles away. With the internet and a cell phone, most things can be organized very easily away from the site. The chances are that someone will live close to the campground (like Don for us) who can run out and take pictures and work with the campground. Think of a wonderful campground you have been to lately and if they can accommodate us, make a few phone calls and nominate that site. There are many of us (the numbers are growing with each Rally) who will help you.
Since most of you are having a difficult time nominating a site, why not put up a site "you are thinking about" or ask those of us who have hosted one before your questions relating to being a Rally host.
Really? Really? Not one person who is checking this topic thinks they can host a Rally? The campground just needs to be able to have about 50 sites reservable with a pavilion (or a tent) to gather under. Here's your chance to have a Rally in your own backyard. If you know of a campground and just a little afraid to nominate, send me a private message. We will walk you through it and give you all the help you need.
Our nomination for B-9 the weekend of May 18, 2012 is for Woodside Lake Park (www.woodsidelake.com) in Streetsboro, Ohio. We realize that there have been two Rallies held in Ohio, but it is a large state and it is a nomination.
Woodside is an older campground with the same owners for 40 years. Although it is old, it is pretty well maintained, not remodeled but maintained. For those of you who attended B4 at Racoon Holler, it is a similar park, with small clusters of sites around a central building that houses a game room, showers and restrooms, a kitchen area and a large enclosed deck that has tables for well over 100 people that we would reserve for the weekend. There are also several pavilions. There are approximately 40 sites with water and electric, other than those sites there is a primitive camping open area that is close to the game room, etc. It is pet friendly, all sites are to have picnic tables and fire rings. Internet and phone service is available, cell phone reception is good.
The park is located 4 miles off of the Ohio Turnpike exit 187 and also near I-77, I-480, I-271, and about 45 minutes from I-71 and I-80.
Located nearby are the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, the Western Reserve Academy, Aurora Farms Premium Outlets, Pro-Footbal Hall of Fame, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The Scenic View Railroad in nearby Peninsula having excursions through the National Park, Stan Hywet Hall, and several museums and university campuses. The area is also great for hiking, bike riding, etc. the Cleveland Clinic has a new 24 hour facility opening next week approximately 12 miles away. The town of Streetsboro has all of the big box stores, fast food, sit down restaurants, gas staions, auto and RV parts and repair.
There would be a $25.00 per person registration fee and the cost of the camp sites are yet to be negotiated but the normal water/electric rate is $34.00/night and I'm sure we would get some sort of discount, the person with the authority to make that decision is on vacation until next week.
We're not going to set up a schedule of events at this time, but it would be similar to past Rallies having meals catered Friday evening, Saturday late morning and early evening and Sunday breakfast. There would be entertainment, games, a Class B RV show, and plenty of time for getting aquainted or re-aquainted, site seeing, etc. For early birds we would most likely have a pot luck type cookout Thursday evening. Ice, firewood, coffee, and soft drinks with all meals would be provided. If our nomination is chosen, we would then submit a more detailed schedule.
Jim has already offered his help with sponsors, etc., we would also need help with registration and anything to do with the Internet, keeping the coffee going, setting up for meals and cleaning afterwards, photographs, announcements, etc.
We hope to see you all in Streetsboro, Ohio or somewhere for B-9
