We didn't "plan" a thing. We were "downsized" from our jobs in our early 50's. That winter we took our small travel trailer to Florida. We met so many wonderful full-timers and gleaned a lot of "how to" information from them. We returned home after 3 months realizing we spent 3 m. doing without everything in that big house. We sold it and everything in it 17 years ago and haven't looked back. We have done a lot of volunteering for national and state parks which we love. We have no intention of every buying a house although it could be a Park Model somewhere in the west, which we love. It's not for everyone but if it's right for you it's a wonderful, carefree lifestyle even though we've gone through some serious medical issues. Obstacles can be overcome wherever they happen. Good luck to all you future "dreamers"!

First off, I would find a product or a career change that would allow me to earn enough money to live on the road. It really isnt that hard to do either.

Or I would spend all my money on the lottery and HOPE I hit it.

When we started, just two month ago, we took a cue from Capt. Kirk and called it our five-year mission. At the end of five, we'll evaluate and decide if we want to keep going.

That would be me! Hope to make Class of '13 or '14 -- when I can retire w/o penalty @ age 54-55. Going to age 80 would give us 25 years on the road, or 6 mo. average in each state.

After 8 cross country tent camping trips as a kid and setting foot in all 48 lower states and camping in most, I have a huge wonderlust to go back (esp. west) and see it all again at a much slower pace.

See Map and Photo from 1964.
