I am just wondering if it is recommended to tie the corners of electric awnings down during a wind storm. I am not talking about severe wind, but just the usual wind that will come with thunder and lightning storms, rain storms, etc.
The trailer I have is a 2011 Jayco 314 BDS. As far as I know, it does not include the automatic closure option that some electric awning have. I will confirm with dealer tomorrow if my trailer has this option or not. Manual does not say we have it.
I see manual awnings tied down all the time, but have not seem any electric ones tied down yet.
Just curious to see what everyone out there was doing.
Thanks

I have thought this very same question. Our new fiver has the electric awning and we haven't used it yet but wondered the same thing. I am not hip on these electric awnings and if ours goes bad or gosh for bid gets torn up I am going to replace it with a manual one!

I have an automatic awning on my mobile suite and I tie it down all the time. I have the automatic sensor, but turn it off so that I can tie it down. If I leave the sensor on, every little wind gust closes the awning. If bad weather is forecast, I just release the tie down and close the awning. Better safe than sorry. I tie it down because the constant "flapping" on a nice, breezy day is annoying.

How can you tell if it's got an "auto rain dump?"

This past winter I tied down our electric awning most of the time putting it in whenever wind was expected, however, when we got back north we were told by the dealer that to tie down the awning was a very poor idea since the metal arms could be bent...................I plan to tie down the awning in light winds and to use a privacy screen when needed. I have found that our previous manual awnings to be much more efficient than the current electric one since you can tip it and move it when you want to. The electric has one position.........OUT.

My Carefree Colorado electric awning had adjustable arms. I can tilt it if necessary. I don't bother since it has the automatic rain dump. I do adjust the pitch from flat to down if necessary. My only problem is the door of the TT hitting the awning when it is angled down. Good thing the door is rounded on the edges.

My electric awning has turn knobs to supposedly lock it in position, although it will still lift up in a little wind.
It took me a while to realize that i could pull one side down a little, then turn the locks.
I pull down the side that the wind is coming from the keep the wind from getting under it and raising it.
You might want to check to see if you can do this with your as it took me a while to realize it could be done.
