Last year we camped at Maumee State Park (Ohio) and drove to the museum. After reading forums, seems like the close campgrounds are not family friendly, and have issues. I done a search for "Campgrounds Henry Ford Museum" and looked at the comments. Good luck, and be careful.

The nearest would be the Detroit Greenfield. Its on Ford Lake. We never camped there because it was too close to the house. It looked nice and seemed to be popular. I would guess 15-20 min away. There is a Walmart close if you need supplies, also some decent places to eat with just a short drive.
Make sure you spend time in the Village. We have had yearly passes for the past 3 years now because my son just loves it (as do I). There is some cool stuff to be seen in the museum but personally I think it could be scaled down a bit. The Village is VERY cool and you could spend days walking around. A few hours in the village wont even dent all they have to see and do. I would suggest a plan more time in the Village as apposed to the museum.
Tip: As long as there is not a convention going on, the gates of the Ford Convention Center will be open and they dont mind you parking in there. All of us season pass people do it. Its directly across the front gate of the Village. If you bring your RV there, obviously you would have to park it far down with the other RVs and Buses.

You can use Wayne County Fair Grounds if all you need is Water and 30 amp Electric. Clean place and as close as you can get to The Henry Ford. $24 a night.

Sterling State Park might be a good compromise between comfort and closeness. About 30 minutes away and right on Lake Erie by Monroe, MI. They are one of just a few MI state parks that have full hookups. Randu

Its clean but you are in the open. Unless it changed they also offered "full time" spots. There use to be some single guys living out of their old trailers. Not the most family camping atmosphere if you know what I mean.
I would consider Sterling State Park a pretty good hike. Doable but not close. They do have a pretty good beach on Lake Erie. Lots of shells so make sure you bring some kind of beach shoes if you go there. Not much else in that area.
If you go to Detroit Greenfield, its like a mile from Bellville which has a Riverboat cruise (on the lake) if your into that type of thing. I keep saying I am going to do it but never have.

If its next weekend, The airshow is in town. Is a mile out and they usually do their practice runs over that area. We use to live down the road.

If you want to stay a little south then Harbortown at I-75 exit 11 easy access in and out. They have a pool and game park next door. Camp Lord Willing on the north end of Monroe has ponds and a lot of shade trees just west of US-24. I believe the Detroit Greenfield is old KOA that's been cleaned up and is pretty nice now.
