I’m thinking of buying one of these but know nothing about them. I assume the ScanGaugeII offers more features (at a higher price) than the ScanGaugeE.
What is the difference, and which model would you buy? Based on what I see on the website, the basic model only offers trip MPG info, which I don’t need. So, is the “II” the way to go?

There is much more to the basic scangauge than MPG. The II is the easiest way to get transmission temperature for most vehicles if you don't already have that readout.
edit: Just looked. They don't even sell the original scanguage any more. Might still be available from other retailers. You must be looking at the ScanGaugeE.

ScanGaugeII is the way to go. X-gauge section
can do many things. Many codes can be found on the net. Must be OBDII not OBD1 unit.

If you have a Ford 6.0 diesel, you can also read your FICM voltage with the XGAUGE codes.

I bought mine from ScanGuage - and they are there when you have a question and are ready to offer their insight if and when you should need it. ScanGuabgeII is the product of today, and you will not be sorry if you buy one. Safe travels.

I bought mine so I could read the code when the Check Engine light came on and then turn the light off. Many things that cause the Check Engine light to come on do not require immediate attention and you can't always reset the light.
I normally monitor MPG. I monitor engine coolant temperature when going uphill (the Rockies in summer). I'd monitor transmission temperature but my ScanGuage doesn't have that ability.
If you normally run low on fuel, the estimated miles/gallons remaining would probably be helpful.

uh oh.....Guess I better see what I actually have!!!!!!!!!!!
Went and checked some pics.....
WOW...Extreme apologies to you and to the company as I do not have the SCANgage, I have the Ultragauge. It has been a good unit but the company sucks to deal with. Guess I should engage the brain before the fingers!!!!

I read lots of people say that they use ScanGauge to monitor transmission temperature. My question though, which I've not seen addressed, is how do you know what a good, bad and dangerous transmission temperature is? I have the Ford E350 based coach.
