Have a leaking blade seal on my Thetford Aqua-Magic Style Plus toilet in my Seneca 35GS. Is there anyone who has attempted to replace this seal? If so, can you share information on the difficulty.
Seems like it should not be that tough, but I am getting a 2 hour labor bid from my service center and I keep going back to the thought "Gee... I should be able to do this"!
Why I want to mess with it is another debate, but for $250 in saved labor charges, seems I should at least look into it...

BTW, the blade seal is the seal between the ball valve and the toilet bowl. When it does not seal properly the water will just drain out of the bowl. Slowly now, but still fast enough that in about 3 minutes the bowl is empty.

The best "fix" is likely an OLD tooth brush. With the blade retracted, clean the groove with the tooth brush.

Use the forum search feature -- I know I have read similar posts and as I recall the solution involves a combo of cleaning/wiping the seal and the spot it slides into. Think I read a post where someone mentioned that if cleaning doesn't work Thetford will send you a new seal for free.

I removed the seal on my Aqua Magic V toilet, cleaned it and replaced it. It had some mineral deposits on it that I scraped off. That was 2 years ago and the seal is still good. I had to remove the toilet to take out the seal. It wasn't that bad. I wouldn't think your toilet would be that much different.

Each part on these toilets is a seperate repair module. Relatively easy to fix but a real pain if you buy the wrong module. They are all made super cheap and tend to break especially the valves. 2 hours is reasonable if they do a good job. Mine easily took 2 hours to do myself and I wished I had a dealer fix it.

I disassembled my 19 year old Aqua-Magic IV and it got to be a crappy job so I bought the Aqua-Magic V.

Style plus toilet has to be separated into 2 separate parts in order to get at blade seal.
Depending on 'room' sometimes it's easier to remove the whole toilet and then separate.
Turn off water supply to trailer, remove shroud, disconnect water to toilet, remove 2 nuts on floor bolts, remove toilet (take it outside and set on work table), disconnect 4 bolts holding top to bottom, remove seal....(clean or replace) as needed, hose down interior of bottom piece (you'll see why ) then put toilet back together (reverse order), take inside, put new floor flange seal on toilet (use old if in good shape), set toilet, bolt down, connect water, install shroud, turn on water to trailer....test toilet.
HERE'S a Style Plus parts diagram
It's not difficult.....pain in rear, YES and will probably take you at least 2 hours.
Good luck!
On Edit: Have you checked with a mobile RV repair as to cost....sometimes cheaper than RV service center and faster. Don't have to take trailer in, they come to you, do work that day and get on down the road for next job.

The kit p/n for your potty is 34117. Just did mine last year and it was easy just yucky. Best way is to remove the potty from the MOHO to a bench after cleaning it thoroughly. Four nuts and the flush hose and remove the porcelain upper and the seal is right there. The kit includes a new ball valve and the seal. When reinstalling the upper part be sure to put the plastic washer on first then the steel washer and nut. Tighten the nuts equally and not overly tight. Use the cross torque method. This is for the ball valve type not the slide valve.

Thanks folks.
I did check the seal and it is not pliable, so suspect it is shot at this point.
I think it is going to require removal of the whole unit. I had hoped the bowl could simply be removed without taking the whole thing out. I will take the advise to get the toilet out of the water closet and onto the bench. Appreciate the insight... Looks like it will be a "crappy" experience at best...
I will check and see if there is a mobile RV repair service here in Temecula... let me know if you have recommendations...
