When my steps come in or go out, they don't stop when they should and bang 3 times before stopping. When the do stop, they are in the correct position, whether in or out. Is this a sensor that tells them when they are all in/out? Is there an adjuster that needs to be reset?

First, check the wires for a break or corrosion underneath or near the door frame.

They are the "coach steps by LCI" - Lippert. And they're not even a year old. Looks like it's back to the dealer.

Usually the power motor is a car window motor. Mine is from a '79 LF Town Car. I have 3 steps on my steps so yours could be different. If you don't have Kwikee steps it could be totally different.

Interesting..
As I understand step operation, they extend or retract until full limit is reached and the voltage draw on the motor begins to rise. The controller senses that rise and stops the travel readying it for the next call to operate.
Possibly yours simply needs a bit of lubrication to keep it from bumping along.
I'm sure the correct answer is out there somewhere. Perhaps with the next post. Who knows..

I just fought the same issue with my steps, I have the C&S Coach Steps, the bushings in the motor were bad. Replacement bushings for an automobile power window are available for about 10 bucks, I replaced ths bushings and they worked correctly for about a day then back the same old way (I didn't set the bushings correctly), I was able to get a new power window motor for $50 bucks so I just replaced the motor now I'm good to go.

I had the same problem with my Lippet steps -- the problem was-- control module.
Replaced under warranty. Works fine now.
