Low speed idle jet is clogged. That's the symtom that closing the choke proves. There is probably a fixed jet that you missed. Soak in Berryman's and blow out really good. Try to find the other very small jet that's clogged and use a SMALL wire to clean. Air screw should be out about 1 1/2- 1 3/4 turns or thereabouts until it idles smoothly. JMHO

I might be wrong but I think that model genset don't idle. It starts and goes to regulated speed for output voltage. Your clue is the choke, its "hunting" for more fuel and the ethanol is the problem. If it has a "high speed" mixture needle (in the bottom of the carb) open it up just a touch until the hunting goes away. Without the high speed needle it will require rejeting just a touch richer to fix the problem. Contact Champion and get thier input on this. Just my 2 cents....

well i soaked the carb in Berrymans carb cleaner. cleaned off the berrymans then blasted everything out with some carb cleaner. Re installed it all and it still pulses... now to Our Place There is a jet on the bottom of the bowl but i dont know it its really adjustable. Right now the jet is screwed in tight but when i turn it out even just alittle bit it seems like it might just rattle and unscrew itself.

I talked to champion yesterday and to be honest the guy that was helping was not really that helpful he admitted to me that he has never really worked on a carburetor and that he was auto mechanic. only thing he told me to check was that the springs on the Governor were tight and that was about it.

I changed spark plug, removed and cleaned carb about 3 times. cleaned the fuel line going to carb. cleaned out the Petcock?(fuel shutoff)added seafoam to gas.

It is running a tad i mean a tiny bit better. i can get it to stop surging if i have the Black throttle screw backed out about 1/4 turn but again when i unplug my lights the genny wants to rev back up? Going to give champion a second chance and hopefully i get someone a little more knowledgeable on the phone. However i dont know what else can be done. It has to be a fuel issue because of me choking the motor to make it sound better. And i think i have covered all the possible fuel issues.

sounds to me like it's suckin air?
a bad gasket or loose mounting bolts on the carb can let it "suck air" and run lean then when you close off the choke it runs better because you are cutting off some of the air.
with it runnin spray a little carb cleaner around any place that could "suck air" and if it suddenly starts to run better you may have found where it's suckin air.

If it is an ethanol problem or even if it's not, use premium gasoline, not regular. This comes from a small engine mechanic friend of mine.

Exactly correct. I have a Coleman that did the same thing. I got tired of it and removed the carb bowl, removed the main jet and drilled it a touch larger with a tiny pin drill. End of problem, runs great now.
Since all this emission stuff manufactures have removed the adjustable mixture controls they used to have. And now with ethenol it requires a richer mixture for about the same power output, thus a too lean, surging generator.

After reading your post again, you bought this used. Per chance are you close to the previous owner or far away and at a different altitude. The jets might have been replaced for his altitude, not yours, happens a lot. Just a thought, but it is important. The previous post clued me in when he said he did a little drilling on his Coleman, changing the jet would have the same effect.
