Is there any point in trying to make reservation in Jan/Feb for South Florida or the Keys.
Also, would we be totally insane to just wing it and show up at a G in the Keys and hope for an opening ???
Thanks for your thoughts

You can try, might get lucky. DON"T go there and wing it. Long drive into the keys and long drive out. Find somewhere north and visit.

You could look into county parks, like CB Smith in Broward ct or Larry&Penny Thompson in Dade ct. In the keys rates will start at $100/day for private campgrounds. state parks are full.
Don't know how to do signature

Thank you so much for your time and your thoughts. Ok, we won't wing it. Have been lucky so far by just dropping in. But knowing the human crush in Fl that time of year.....thanks for confirming.
Have gone to the website on CB Smith and the Thompsons. I certainly appreciate that tidbit.
Got my "work" cut out for me. Thanks for being helpful !

Hi Angryskipper6....
Take a look at www.lazylakeskeyscamping.com and try to call them to explain your needs. They may or may not have a site for you but might take you on a stand-by basis for contact if they get a cancelation.

I wouldn't count on winging it by heading down to the Keys and hoping for an opening.
Jolly Roger Travel Park in Marathon might have spots available.

I will be at Jolly Roger on Grassy Key for the month of Feb. They are some what reasonable priced but most times full in the winter. Not to bad a place.

If you want st stay in the keys make reservations, that time of the year you will not find anything by winging it. Campgrounds are full and there are not alot of them between major islands. If want to visit the keys especially southern keys (KeyWest) plan on staying a night somewhere, that is a long drive down and back from Broward County or anywhere on the mainland.
JMHO it is worth a few nights somewhere in the middle where you can actually get the feel of the Keys, and visit some of the different islands.

I have been lucky twice checking every day on reserveamerica and capitolizing on someone cancelling their reservation at Bahia Honda State park. I just did a search for a site and looked in the available by date listing and reserving imediately upon finding an available site. The CG was full both times we were there. Good luck

Hi we had reservations for Curry Hammock in August. I made those about 2 months ahead of time. We wanted to stay at Bahia Honda and of course it was booked solid. I just kept checking the reservation site every day. In June we lucked out . Someone had canceld 10 days end of july through August. I grabbed the site for three nights. We loved it there abd at Curry Hammock. We also stayed in St Augustine at Anastasia State Park on our way to the Keys and on the way home. It is beautiful there. Enjoy the Keys. We go there often as we are snorkelers and the reef is spectacular.
