I was looking on EBay for used RVs. I noticed nearly every one from a dealer states that the unit was owned by a non smoker, non pet owner. Odd, nearly everybody at the CG I go to, owns a pet and there is a lot of smokers too. I would rather they don't even mention the issue and let the RV shopper decide if there is an objectionable odor. I'm not saying they're lying but it's hard to believe that all these used units came from non smoking, non pet owners.

RV dealers (and private sellers also) never lie about units for sale. RVs used by smokers or pet owners are never for sale. Just sayin.

Also those units that dealers are selling were only used to drive to church on Sunday by an old couple.

In our winter Florida resort there is not one in 365 sites that does not have at least one pet in it, most have more than one. I think it is fair to assume this is true at most places. Truth is the first casualty of a dealer's claim.

While I would agree that some snowbirds have pets, 100% of snowbirds do not have pets. Our experience is closer to 40-50%. To even believe that based on one park, all other snowbird parks have a similar ratio of pet owners is ridiculous. As to smokers, we see many who smoke but do not smoke inside their RV.

When you walk into a for sale rv, and smell anything unusual, you have to find out the source. If you detect no smell at all, likely you can be assured it hasnt been smoked in.

This is a bit of a regional effect on how common smoking is. If you go out to the west coast, very few people smoke so they may not be lying on that part.

I agree with Rick and Cheryl, most smokers smoke outside. As a practical matter, if there is one smoker, and one non-smoker, then the smoker has to smoke outside because there is not enough space in an RV for the smoke to be absorbed by. It's not like a car where you can put down a window and change out all of the air in a matter of seconds. The estimated 40% pet owners sounds about right as well. But if a person had a non-shedding, non-destructive dog I doubt you could tell a pet owned trailer from a non- pet trailer. There are a lot of non-shedding lap dogs in Florida.
