We are retired and have been thinking about going south for a couple of months this winter. Concerns- we don't know anyone that goes south anymore. The one's we knew either quit going or passed on. How easy is it to get aquointed into the ones that don't stay at the retirement traps?

If you stay at a RV park you will have more friends & activities than you will know what to do with. Most parks need volunteers to help with activities & events, it's a great way to meet people. Many or most may be in the same boat you are.

Not sure what you consider the retirement traps???

Some people never met a stranger and others find it hard to make new friends. You will find others in the same boat as yourself. Yes people who go south do die or stop for some other reasons but I think that is more due to health issues vs not liking it.

Try it for a while and save fuel money to get home if it does not work out.

I have to tell you coming back to cold and rain is harder after you know there are warmer and drier options to be had.

When you say south, can you be more specific as to areas and states you are interested in??

We have been going to Yuma for the last 14 or 15 years. Stayed in Parks for 4 or 5 winters then bought a Park Model and my own Lot. Stayed there 4 years then bought a three BR Home. Every where we stay nearly every one is extremely friendly. There are lot of walkers, bike riders, golfers, you name it every one is friendly. Very easy to make friends

I would advise you to look for a part with a mixture of fixed units and rv's both. That combination seems to attract ages from 60+ to 85+. Bigger parks also seem to have a larger variety of activities and its easier to find birds of the same feather.

I can't imagine anyone that doesn't have to spending a winter up north. What have you got to lose?

If a retirement trap is a campground/resort where there are only old people in the winter then the south is full of them. After awhile one longs to see a kid!
