We are headed to Charleston South carolina and don't know a lot about the area and need information about campgrounds in the area. Tried to find some in our books but they don't list but one or two. Any help would be appreciated..

James Island Park campground is our favorite. It's really nice and pretty convenient to the city.

James Island is the CG of choice. But the MT Pleasat KOA is nice as well. We also liked Lake Aire as well. James Island is closest to town

James Island County Park and Campground is outstanding. Beautiful park and excellent campground with full hookups at a very fair price. Their web site will provide you with plenty of information. You might need reservations.

We have been to Charleston twice. The first time we stayed at Oak Plantation and toured around Charleston. We thought it was a great location, easy access, albeit a bit far to downtown. We did not have that many city streets to travel.
But now while James Island is a a beautiful place, and I will not dispute that, the commute into downtown can be a challenge with all of the city streets and stoplights. On the map, it looks closer.
In our opinion, for touring Charleston, Oak Plantation is the choice. If you want to vacation and have fun and maybe drive into Charleston for a day trip, then choose James Island. Good luck. Both places are a 10 IMHO.

Agree with bluecrabbie. Oak Plantation is very easy to get into & out of; James Island, not so much.
