On my outside storage lockers the little coevrs that have a spring on them that cover up where the key goes in have steadily been failing. In 2 cases the metal cover has gotten lodged in the cylinder and on the others the spring covers have just failed so debris readily gets inside. Has anyone come up with a solution? I tried some tape over the top but it comes off quickly.

I just spray my locks regularly with WD40, never had a problem.

I, too, have heard not to use WD 40 in locks. I've had good luck with spray-in graphite powder.

I have been spraying them regularly with Tri-Flow. Maybe WD40 is better? The mechanism just seems cheap. Mobile locksmith was $160 to fish out a broken piece of the sliding cover thing. I need a longer term solution.

The locksmith I know says never use WD-40 in a lock it will cause problems later. Tri-Flow is what he recommends.

You decide. He uses Tri-Flow, locks broke. I use WD-40, no problems

I will help start or stop a debate, I am a locksmith 30 years’ experience CML (certified master locksmith) I only use WD40 in my own locks. Tri-Flow, silicon or powder graphite makes me a lot of money. Most new cam locks are made of Zinc. Graphite will destroy them in no time and silicon sprays will collect dust and dirt. I almost forgot most locksmiths want your lock to wear out or break to keep the money flow (pun intended).

My previous MH was a Jayco Kodiak and the compartment locks were terrible. I changed one of them so that I'd have at least one compartment that did not have 468,000 keys out there that can open it. The lock turned out to be much better than the one used by Jayco.

I put the original lock back on when we traded it and I was going to put it on the 26QP but found the locks used on the Itasca were much better. I still don't like having 500,000 keys out there that can open my compartments. Have you changed any of yours?

Don, if you have the new Strattec keys you have a somewhat unique key from the norm as it is, not a CH751 and also you have one of the best cam locks currently being produced, when I added two more compartments I ordered locks keyed to my existing Winnebago keys. I would not change them, a screwdriver or pry bar does not know the difference between a $5.00 lock and a $30.00 lock.

I should have the same locks as you as we both have the same MH. Yes, my key says Strattec. I agree it is much better than what I had before so I haven't changed any (of course the most important is to the primary storage area). How do you like you 26QP? We got through our first year with no problems - we thought. Three days after warranty was over we took it out of the storage yard and to load up and to head for FLA for the winter (have a park model there). Some of the wall paper in the upper corner of the bedroom appears to have slipped out of the corner and it was scrunched. It doesn't appear it was due to water as there is no other evidence of a leak. Kind of wondering if it wasn't due to heat as we had a very hot summer.
