Anyone have DISH Top 120 with an RV account and DISH DNS service ?
Are you paying $44.99 with the DNS or is it $44.99 plus the $5.00 for the DNS $49.99 . I have called DISH numerous time and received the usual conflicting info. If you get DNS you can not get locals , does the loss of locals offset the DNS cost ? Thanks Bob

Local channels are usually free but adding DNS will not be free.

don't have DISH but the way it works on DirecTV is a result of the FCC. You either get local channels included in your monthly subscription within 125 miles of home, OR you pay (I think it was $9.99 per month last time I checked) for DNS east/west coast feeds of ABC, CBS, NBC. You pay this in addition to your monthly subscription fees. If you keep DirecTV at home, you also cannot "mirror" your home subscription so you would pay monthly subscription x2 plus the monthly fee for DNS for the RV. We decided to get a digital box and hope we can get local channels wherever we are.

Bob did you call the Dish RV Support number? 888-309-0370 takes you straight to them. They are much better trained on our RV Dish problems. And if you keep in touch with them as you move around, you can get the locals and forget the DNS from what I understand.

And another place to check if the above people can't answer you - go over to DBSTalk.Com - Your one stop place for Satellite News, Talk & Information! and register. Then you want to find "MattG@DISH Network" (DBSTalk.Com), and he will help you out. But I think one phone call to the Dish RV Support people will help you.

There is not any "loss of locals" by having DNS. As stated, the local channels are beamed through spot beams as directed by FCC regulations. That regulation was as a result of the Networks wanting to aid local channels across their network to get local advertising revenue (based on numbers of viewers).

The 888 309 0370 is not The Rv Support Team ( It used to be ) That number is actually the Equipment Verification Team. However they will answer questions and seem to know what they are talking about.

If you get a RV ACCOUNT and add DISH DNS you will not get your locals. An RV account can not have both DISH DNS and Locals at the same time.

Dave from AK has such an account and his programming $ was reduced by the locals being remove and charge $5 for the DNS. So his monthly bill stayed the same $.

Not too long ago I would have disagreed with this statement. I activated my DNS service this summer and the locals went away.

However, on three separate phone calls to Dish Network, three different support people (on the RV line) told me that DNS was not available on the EA satellites. It IS available, and I finally got it authorized.

There's a lot of misinformation flying around even in the organization. If you get the right person, you can probably get anything, but it's a crapshoot. Also, as I posted earlier today, Having read the stuff on this forum for a while, I can almost guarantee surmountable problems. There are a lot of lawmakers, lobbyists, bureaucrats, and others, each with a hair-trigger to say, "You can't do that."

Occasionally one of them is probably right.
