Right now we are thinking McMinnville or Dayton (Willamette Wine Country RV Park or Olde Stone Village RV Park), but may have to consider Roseburg or at least that area ..

Just wanted to drop by and see where y'all might suggest in the area to stay for a nice spot before we head up to Fort Clatsop to volunteer during Feb-March-April ...

Brookings on the southern coast. Usually good weather in the winter time.

Old Stone Village is next door to the biggest attraction in Oregon Air Museum.

Check out temp averages. Roseburg can get quite cold in the winter. McMinnville area will still be cool but normally much more temperate.

TO get yourself used to this wonderful area you might just pop in on our coastal area State Parks.

Excelled by none for beauty and if you are going to FT. Clatsop , this will be a great introduction.
Get as close to Highway 101 as you can and use it as your guide to the parks available.

If you are coming up the I-5 first off stop at the casino at the 99 mile marker. real great park with shuttle to the restaurant. Join the member thing and get discount on the gas/fuel.

From there to exit 163 DRAIN/ Florence coastal area. Follow 101 up . You will be pleased.
Yes and I am biased.

We are planning to be back at Ft. Clatsop Feb-March-April 2012 after volunteering Sept/Oct. 2011. We have November to tidy some things up here before hitting the road again and thought we would take a coupla months off and maybe go to McMinnville or Roseburg before going back to Ft. Clatsop.

So many of the state parks are closed for the winter, and we thought we would "pamper" ourselves by staying at either Wine Country RV Park or Olde Stone Village RV Park .... UNLESS some others have better ideas.

Thank you for your input and surely will consider your thoughts and ideas.

Two very different winter time choices, McMinnville or Roseburg. Both are very nice areas but for the winter I would rather be in McMinnville. Winter driving can be iffy in the Roseburg area and north of there and most of the great activities are outdoorish. McMinnville is closer to major winter indoor and outdoor activities and if is an easier drive to the Northern coast when you have to go there.

I vote for McMinnville area. You have another RV Park just west of McMinnville on Highway 18 called Mulkey RV Park. It is small but very nice with a friendly staff.
