Has anyone welded the "L" brackets of their equalizer hitch directily to the trailer tongue? I have been using the hitch for years and absolutely love it. I was just considering how nice it would be to eliminate the occasional tightening adjstments.

Might have an effect on resale value. Not everyone uses that brand of WD hitch.

Or weaken the frame a bit from the heat applied during welding

My feet are fine as long as they are traveling.

I have and have had no problems. I put a small 3/4" weld on the bracket that is bolted to the tongue. Welded up at the top of the bracket at the top of the tongue on the side. It can easily be removed with a diamond cutting wheel and then ground down smooth. That way you can keep you EQ hitch if you want when you sell the TT.

Sounds like an easy fix. It would only take a tack weld and be easily removed when you sell.

Drill a hole and bolt on just the "L" piece. A regular bolt and lock-nut/washer won't work loose like the set screw and bracket assembly.

I contacted equalizer and they have no issue with welding the brackets to the tongue. I'm not worried about the "permanent" mounting of the bracket. I just wondered if it had been done. I did find out that they have a new bracket out that may fit better but I think I'll just do the welding. Thanks for the replies.

I have a Reese/Valley hitch but my brackets are welded on, all the way around. No problems with trailer or brackets.

I was thinking welding mine on too I'm tired of readjusting the brackets every trip.
