Check the NON-Commercial RV application in California and the drives license. After looking it over the test is all most like a commercial test along with a Dr's health evaluation. Its just plain garbage any one has to be put through this nonsense to own a RV. And you never know--It could be coming to your state.

I agree; another reason I don't live in CA anymore.

Well, I tell the truth about my friend telling me this. He doesn't use this or any other informative site. I haven't been on here for a while and haven't heard anything in magazines or the American Sand Association paper, so I searched on here before posting.
My friend did say he knows someone that was cited and that's one reason he's getting a bigger truck. I can get more info.

In Kali, virtually all "pick up trucks" have "COMMERCIAL PLATES" and can be stopped and inspected. They usually can find a reason to stop you and go from there. CHP has portable scales in some of there units and will use them as needed.
Speeding, unsafe driving, being in the "wrong lane", more than a few cars stuck behind you on a 2 lane road, on and on and on, were all guilty at some point or another. LEO's can usually find a reason to stop someone without alot of effort. Judging by some of the rigs I see motoring down the Hwy, its very possible they are over weight and that can be considered an "unsafe load". Just last week I saw a CHP unit with a small pickup (Toyota or Nissan) pulled over and checking things out, there was a stack of cardboard well over the top on the cab and the tail end was not too far from dragging the pavement.
On the other hand, I don't believe much of what is posted and were only hearing one side of the story !!

You have just proven my point. It is a commercial law because the lazy pukes in Sacramento figured that nobody other than truck drivers would bother to tow doubles. Since they are still in the stone age, they figure that nothing has changed. And what to do with the RV people who want to pull doubles... uhhhhhhh, let them take the commercial driver's license test (full) because uhhhhhh, we are too lazy to simply make it an endorsement. And then since they have to take a driving, uhhhhhh, we will let them take the test with their Toy Hauler (which they never had to do, ever!). Just plain stupid.

Commercial licenses are generally (99.9%) possessed by people whose livelihood is just that - driving a commercial truck. The state figured it out with bigger RV's and made an RV endorsement. They even went so far as to have a Non Commercial Class A. This should be nothing more than an endorsement.
I kind of have to disagree with some of this. If you have a CDL you are held to a higher standard.
  • Lower alcohol limit for DUI
  • No traffic school if you get a ticket
  • Random drug testing
  • Etc
Bkirkpatrick I am not saying you are incapable of pulling doubles and I know you have your CDL. I am saying that there are other people that I would not want to pull doubles. If you make it easy to get the endorsement or license then people would make bad decisions.

I agree that the CA DMV is messed up and we have to pay that price to live here.

  • Remember though that the .04 only apply's when you are operating a commercial vehicle. When you and I end our shift and get off work and are in our personal car heading home, we are held to the higher .08 standard.

That is incorrect. You are held to that standard even in your personal vehicle. Just like you can not go to traffic school if you get a ticket in your personal vehicle.
