We are headed for the RGV area for the winter, leaving WI tomorrow morning. Looking for RV park recommendations in the Pharr area. Have looked at Trailer Life book but would appreciate your recommendations.

Thanks in advance for you help.

There are dozens and dozens of them around. One we always enjoyed using is "First Colony" http://www.firstcolonyrv.com/l located in Harligen. Reasonable prices, friendly, LOTS of group activities available. They take Passport America also but their monthly rates are comparable with PPA rates, even without being a member.
Good luck / Skip

Tip-O-Texas RV Resort
101 E Sioux Rd. . . . Pharr . . . 956-787-9959

Tip-O-Texas

Nice rec hall, 2 pools, lots of activities

Chose your lot when you get there. There is much variance in the quality of the lots.

Or don't limit yourself to Pharr, about 500 parks in the Valley, nearly all will have vacancies. Just get a week somewhere & explore until you find what you like. McAllen & Pharr are the busiest for traffic.

Check here for parks in Pharr & Valley wide.

Pharr Parks

Click on the city on the left & parks will display.

Valley Wide Parks

Consider a lot where your patio faces north then your rig will provide afternoon shade & shield you from the prevailing wind.

Victoria Palms is the tops in that area. Only 500 parks to choose from. We stayed at Tip O Texas one season and then Bit of Heaven, you pretty much get what you pay for in the Valley. If you don't need a lot of the whistles and bells you can find reasonable parks. Suggest you book a week in almost any park and then visit around to see just what appeals to your life style.

Try chimney park, south side of Mission for a week or two.

Many fine parks in the area. Try two or three. One less than a mile from Pharr is Paradise Park Inc in McAllen. If you like to golf there are plenty of folks to go with. Other activities as well.

Tropic Star is a good park in Pharr. Just down the street from a big new HEB Plus and right next to a good Mexican restaurant. My only complaint is too many golf carts, but they are beginning to show up in other parks as well. Like Skip said, there are some interesting parks in the Harlingen area, if you change your destination.

We're in the Mission Bell / Trade Winds resort in Mission, 10 minutes or less from Pharr. This is our 2nd winter in this park.

There are 3 Sun Resorts in the area that offer amazing deals for first time visitors (no tour or sales involved!) In the TACO (Texas Association of Campgrounds?) magazine, which you can pick up anywhere, there is a coupon for $89 for a week, or $189 for a month. You can also pick up a flyer with this coupon right in the park offices. Or, on their website special, you can get buy one week at regular price (around $190), get one free. http://www.sunrvresorts.com/Portal_Texas

We looked at all 3 parks. All seemed nice and clean. All are centrally located, close to Hwy 83, easy to drive from one end of the RGV to the other. Here's our take:

~Kenwood in La Feria. Trees, very friendly and well managed, excellent indoor pool/hot tub/showers, nice laundry, billards, rec hall. There is a great little Mexican cafe called Don Beto's up the street. This is the one we chose, and we are very happy.

~Snow to Sun in Weslaco: Larger, lots of park models, outdoor pool, remaining RV sites mostly wide open. We have heard that this is considered sort of a "party" park with frequent happy hours.

~Casa de Valle in Alamo: Drove through it and it also seemed nice.

In Harligen, which is at one end of the RGV, I'd choose the new section of Sunshine, 2nd choice Tropic Winds. Both are Passport parks.

If you want the upscale parks:
~Llano Grande in Mercedes, North Section. Beautiful. Golf course nearby.
~Victoria Palms in Donna. Sedate-resortish. Lots of activities.
~Retama (owner-rented lots) or ~Bentson Palm Village right by the Birding Center in Mission. If you like walking and bicycling, Bentson Palm Village is lovely. (Be sure it's the Bentson Palm **Village** by the Birding Center--some parks with similar names are pretty dumpy!)

Be aware that most park offices in the RGV are closed on weekends. In Kenwood, one of the residents went and got the manager, who was very gracious in helping us get checked in and settled on a Saturday.
