I am pretty trusting at campgrounds. Maybe too much. I leave things out and storage closed and latched but not locked. I used to leave my vucube out. Never had a problem but then my campgrounds were pretty exposed and not secluded so stealing my stuff would have been fairly easy to see. I feel safer in campground than at home in the city where I keep things locked. Parked a lawmower in my driveway once and went inside to get cool and came back and it was gone.

Story of the guy who had a stump in his yard that he wanted to have removed. He just tied a chain to it and locked to a post and took 24 hours for someone to cut the chain and steal the stump.

Don't be alarmed if you hear hysterical screams in the dark of night..it's just the hamster trying to "rehabilitate" a bad guy! I also have one of THESE. The doors aren't locked for MY protection....

One common auction I read here: "I lock my storage door with the tools inside". Occurs to me that if a thief is looking for tools he would test each door and find the locked door and break into it.

We used to not worry about locking things up, but a few years back we were in one of the nicer RV resorts and didn't lock up the bikes. Came out the next morning and 2 of them were gone.
Heard the same story from several other campers that weekend, and the general consensus was that some local kids came through the park and grabbed whatever was quick and easy. Nothing had been broken into, and nothing that was locked was taken - only things sitting out loose (like our bikes).
Nowadays we lock the bikes and the storage compartments, but don't worry about the folding chairs or the BBQ.

If you have CH751/HF315 keys (and most RV's do), there's not much benefit. The bad guys have these keys so it offers next to zero deterrent. In fact it could do more harm than good when a visitor comes a callin': "Hmm why is this door locked? I'll just take out my key and see..."
We lock while travelling to help keep doors from flying open but never bother in a CG. If we were more concerned, we would have to change all compartment locks to get a reasonable level of security.

We lost two coolers of food at Michigan state parks. One was taken during the day,and the other at night while we slept. If you can afford to loose it,leave it unlocked. The other day someone checked my storage bays to see if they were locked. Of course the propane bay does not lock, and the door was open. Other unlocked items were stolen near by.
