We have been to Fort Wilderness several times for both Halloween and Christmas and I have to say, I think the decorations at Halloween are every bit as good as Christmas.

On property is your best bet and Disney has been offering specials with free meal plans, check with mousesavers.com. Oct. is in the off time and we always took the kids then as it's not too hot then but was hi 80's this year. There are hotels that offer suites for as little as $159 a week but you would need a rental car. I live in Kissimmee in the winter so see the rates all the time.

Thank you for all the replys. We are still looking at our options. We are wondering if Disney and Wilderness decorate for Holloween like they do for Christmas.

Is the 2nd week of October too early for the seasonal decorations? Too cool?

Wendy

I don't think it will be to cool. October would be a excellent month to visit. I believe it would still be warm enough to use the two Disney water parks.

The Fort Wilderness cabins are much more expensive then the economy resorts. I believe that you can use the Disney Movie resort or the Disney Music resort for about $100 a night or less.

All the disney resorts and theme parks are tied together with a bus line. So you should be able to fly into Orlando, and take a Disney bus right from the airport to your resort, and then travel from the resort to any and all of the theme parks all by Disney bus. You may never need to rent a car. The bus transportation between the resorts and the parks are all at no charge, are free and clean and easy to use.

Larry's correct - when we've stayed on-Disney properties, we've never rented a car. (Though, as I mentioned before - we did pay $50 for a cab to take us to Universal Studios for the Blue Man Group show.)
