Also, if you insist on using chemicals in the RV holding tank, they make some that are septic safe with no formaldehyde, etc. Like FK said, RV tanks are basically "chamber pots", they are not septic systems and there is no "breaking down" going on.

Let's get to the point and not jabber about this...
"8 aspirins in a holding tank/septic tank," ...RIDICULOUS.

Either the guy was just messing with you or he has been sniffing way too many septic tank fumes.

The aspirin is for the headache the bacteria get from all the chemicals.

I put 7 aspirin a week in my septic - they take the "indirect" route through me first. Next time you need your septic tank cleaned I would select a different outfit.

I have never bought any of those chemicals for rv tanks. Why bother, the po po is not going to be in there long is it. I like to empty my tank, fill it up 1/2 or better and add some RID X septic tank treatment. I feel that the bugs will clean my tank and liquidfy the solids that may be left behind. When you get to the campsite you can dump and proceed to use the toilet as normal. I have a clear plastic elbow and you should see the junk that comes out of a supposedly clean tank. And it's good for the place you finally dump it in. No bad chemicals.

I also used to work for the health department and have dealt with many septic systems. I totally agree with Francesca Knowles and feel the that the pumper guy is either misinformed and is spreading an old wives tale or just new on the job.

Well you may well need the asprin, 2 at a time, and they WILL eventually find their way into the septic system,, but.. I am of the Do not add chemicals.

I do (or did) use biologicals (Waste digester products) when I part timed between camping trips.. But now I use nothing at all.

Now, for some humor.. There is a Travelling Christian Minister/Minsteral, Tommy Brant (or Brandt) Very nice Provost motor home 45' DP, Silver. Auto just about everything

He, His wife, and son, travel around the country and recently spend about a week parked.. next to me.. So Thursday I got to hear him perform.

He was telling the story of a gig he got booked for in a place with PUB in the name,, Now he's not what you'd usually call PUB fare. So he was a bit concerned.

He sang a bit.. Stone face audience, He sang another piece, same result. So he decided to see if he could liven them up a bit.. Seems he used to hang with folks who were #1 in the #2 world.

The song title: The Septic Tank Man

What you don't know when I hand you your bill is that ti's paying for my Coup Devile.

I've dumped our 5er at home for years, our house is on a septic tank. No issues here, but I don;t add chemicals to our tank (rv), never felt it was needed. I do carry some that is septic safe.

Been doing it this way for 14+ years, never an issue.
