I have one of the portable Honda 2000 generators. Was wondering what kind of set up some of you may have developed to keep your unit dry when using it while it's raining.
I looked online and can't seem to find anything. Someone suggested putting it in a small (well ventilated) dog house. Any suggestions?
I find that the times I want to use it most are usually when it's raining outside but I don't want it to be close to the camper to minimize exhaust fumes and noise.
Thanks for any suggestions have may have.

You can buy a cheap "pup tent", or tarp and a couple of tent poles, and then leave it open at both ends, for a good air flow. Probably won't cost more than $20 to set it up, and it may even cut down a bit on the sound.

Go by any Industrial Laundry: UniFirst, Cintas, American etc, and ask for a throwaway 3x4 or 3x5 walk off mat. Tell them why you want it and they will give you a choice of several I'm betting.
The mats are a heavy rubber backed carpet that will repel rain and when you lay it over the generator it is stiff enough to keep it from making a tight fit and allows plenty of ventilation yet keep it dry. Plus when not in service for that, you can still use it for an entry mat. Plus it stores easily when rolled into a tight roll.

Electric Shock Hazards
The generator produces enough electric power to cause a serious
shock or electrocution if misused.
Using a generator or electrical appliance in wet conditions, such as
rain or snow, or near a pool or sprinkler system, or when your hands
are wet, could result in electrocution. Keep the generator dry.

Regarding the Honda; The only part that isn't built to get wet is the outlet. This is a CYA issue with Honda as there's no way an exposed outlet (no matter what brand of gen) meets NEC. The reality is the recept. is somewhat protected and it won't hurt anything if it gets wet. But, if wet then it presents a chock hazard and the gen s/b shut down prior to touching the plug. Just use your common sense.
