Hi All.

We have an HP Officejet J4680, an All-in-One Printer. We use it mostly in the house. But at times if we think we will need it, we will bring it along with us. Over the years, the DW has worked at home for many years, and has gone through many All-In-One Printers. This one has lasted the longest. And it has been the "Fastest Printer" we have ever seen for home use. Its also the "Quitest" and its very easy on "Inks". One of the great features on it, is it is "Wireless". So we can put it any where in our House or Motorhome. We also use our 17 in HP Laptop with the "Delorme GPS System" on it. Its great to be able to just hit print from the passengers seat and print away. It works great on a very small inverter. It "Scans", it "Prints", it can send an "E-Mail" it can also "Fax". Its been by far the best All-In-One Printer we have ever had. We were so impressed with this printer, that when the time came, that I wanted to buy a new HP Laptop, I was given a choice of a couple of different Printers to choose from, for "Free". Yep, I got the very same one as the DW has. Its been a couple of years now, and the Brand New All-In-One Printer is still in its box. Nice to have a really great back up printer, espically for free. The Older Printer that we are still using, probably has had at least "75 case of Printer Paper" or more go through it, with no issues what so ever. And that is a lot of printing that has been done on this printer, and showing no signs of wearing out or having any problems. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

I used to carry a very small Canon printer in the RV but have decided that a slightly larger HP 4-in-1 is SO worth the extra space to carry it. Being able to make a copy of a document while on the road has often been invaluable.

X2

Picked up a really nice Canon All-in-One on an Amazon Gold Box deal. $59 for the whole shebang, and, yes, the scanner/copier function does come in handy at times. Fortunately, our 5ver has plenty of space for the slightly larger unit. It really isn't that much bigger, footprint wise, but adds an inch or two to height. I'd go out and seriously look at the options (at some of the aforementioned brick stores) and see what the new units have to offer. Printers have gotten smaller, but, comparatively speaking, not to the same degree that the all-in-ones have. If you are going to print on letter sized paper, there is a limit (dimensions of the paper) as to how small you can go, and the all-in-ones dimensionally, with the exception of height, are really very close to "plain jane" printers; color printers really don't take up any more space than a black and white.

My 2 cents, your mileage may vary...

What I found was the 'real compact' printers that can print only, cost 3 times more than a plain medium size printer that can scan, print and copy. For me just couldn't justify paying that much more for a printer for the MH.

The smallest one I found that scans, prints and copies is the Epson Stylus. Simple flat rectangular printer. Simple and works great! Office Depot runs really good sales on printers all the time.

I finally broke off my addiction to HP printers. There is just too many problems with them communicating with laptops that are 'not' an HP.

The cost of a true portable printer is why I bought an Epson Stylus NX230 at Walmart for $35 plus tax. Small enough to sit on the dresser top in the bedroom and with WiFi at that price it was dirt cheap. Inks will be expensive if I buy Epson but I will probably buy refilled cartridges to use in the RV. Have had good luck with refills before with other printers.

We bought a brand new Lexmark printer for $5 at a garage sale. It was pretty basic but was still in the box. It had come with their new computer as a package deal and they did not need it. Since then we have seen several others the same way at garage sales.

THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR IDEAS! We appreciate it. We are going shopping this weekend to look at some of those that you suggested. We have looked online at reviews, but you can't see the actual size or feel the weight, Thanks again for taking the time to give us your reviews for what has worked for you!

This is the Original Poster. Thanks for all of your suggestions! They were very helpful.

We bought an Epson Stylus NX430. It is called a SMALL-IN-ONE. It is just 5.7" tall, 11.8" deep, and 15.4" wide. It weighs about 9 pounds. It prints, copies, scans, and does photos. It was on sale at Office Max for $49.99. We checked the online reviews and they were good.

Thanks again!

HP Office jet 100 mobile printer works great with Toshiba lap top and Toshiba 10 inch travel computer. Purchased at Office Depot for less than $100.00 Everything works great on the road with Verizon Mobile Hotspot.

We use a Canon ip90. It is extremely small (about the size of 2 sandwiches side by side), prints great and it is a Canon! See it here.
