I have absolutely ZERO regrets about buying both of my F350's, and the GM dually I had before these. If I had bought a 250/2500 instead of any of my 1-tons, it would have been not enough truck and thus the wrong truck for the task. I don't see myself ever owning a 3/4-ton again. I use my trucks as trucks and need them to be the most truck they can be.

because of the trailer I have, no regrets trading in the 250 for a 350 dually, but if I didn't need the hauling capacity, I did like the 250. But I love this dually for towing.

I've owned and operated more one ton DRW trucks than most folks and I always found they were useful for the job needed. However at this time I don't require a DRW truck and I find my current 2500 truck is useful for its current job.

With the new Fords, I think you'll find that a fully loaded SRW short box is more expensive than the Dually.

In the SRW models, I can't imagine why I (and anyone else) bought a 250 instead of a 350 before. Probably the biggest reason is selection. Dealers typically have waaayyy more 250s than 350s when it comes to SRW models.

That being said, I like my dually. With our Cyclone, I had to get a dually because the pin weight is so heavy. But that being said, my SRW 350 pulled our heavy Cyclone just fine. For me personally, my dually was no more stable than my SRW. That's just me.

I'll take this from the opposite perspective: My 2500 Dodge with the Cummins was my first full size truck. Initially I was going to pull a travel trailer. My initial thoughts were, OMG that truck with the Cummins diesel will pull anything, why on earth would I need a 3500?? So like the stories we read on this forum all the time. I get a 5th wheel instead of a travel trailer (it's only 30') and then a truck camper so ....Yeah, if I could go back in time I would've purchased the 1 ton instead. Luckily for me, the Dodge Ram of that year, the only difference between the 2500 and the 3500 diesel truck is the one overload leaf spring...that's it. That is easy to overcome. So I have no problems staying within the weight limits of the 3500 Dodge SRW. Frankly I don't understand why they even make a 2500 diesel engine truck?

Went from a 2500HD to F350 diesel. Loved the Chevy but likely should have bought the 2500 in the diesel, at the time it was $10,000 more. 8 years later we now have the F350 diesel and really like it, beautiful truck and it pulls the Fox great.

I understand what you mean, it's mostly a marketing thing. I don't understand why the manufacturers sell both 250/2500 series trucks and 350/3500 SRW trucks when just about everyone agrees that the basic nuts and bolts of the trucks are the same. On a SRW you get maybe an extra leaf in the rear, slightly higher rated tires and a bigger number on the door sticker. There is more difference between a 3500 SRW and a dually than between a 2500 and a 3500 SRW.

What would really make sense is for the manufacturers to make it simple and eliminate the SRW 350/3500 altogether, and make a 250/2500 truck with a GVWR in the 10K-11K range and a RAWR in the 6.5-7K range. (right about what a SRW 350/3500 is now) The 350/3500 would be DRW only with a GVWR in the 12-13K range and RAWR around 9K. This would make truck selection simpler. The downside is that there would be one less issue to debate on this forum, since the difference between a "3/4 ton" and "1 ton" pickup would be very obvious.

Being as I currently own both types.....then again, I have an mdt, that at the time I could not understand why there was a 45 series vs my mdt I bought......

SO, as long as one has the next sized up truck, after going from one to the other, could be a midget toyota tacoma/= to a full size half or 8 lug rig, or a sw 8 lug to a dually, or a 35 series dually to a class 5 or 6 mdt as I did back in 93, proclaiming I would never again own a blinking POJ dually 1 ton again.....here I am back to driving a 1 ton dually.

At the end of the day, your truck is nothing more than a tool, if it does what it is supposed to do, then you have the correct tool/truck. If it is too big or small.....then you have the wrong tool, and need to go up or down in size. Relate this to hammers, is a 16oz hammer the correct one? or a 28-32oz framing style? or a 3 or 4 lbs sledge with a 12 or 16" handle? or a 28" hammer with a really curved claw, or a straigher claw? or a waffle vs a smooth head?

back to your regularly scheduled disCUSSion of whatever it was.......I'm personally hoping the freezing rain/fog goes way sooner than later, either back to snow, or our normal rain to melt the snow away!

Here are the actual #'s. A F350 SRW short box KR equipped as my truck - pretty much loaded =lists at $66,950. the KR Dually with the exact same options lists at $66,840 and the exact same thing in the F250 lists at $66,400. That pretty much tells the story - they are all the same price because they are all the same truck - throw some airbags on a F250 and it will tow almost any 5'ver made without issue.
