I would say as long as towing/hauling vs cost are the main criteria, the who would complain for the price difference. However, if ride come into the equation, there might be some wiggle room.
Most of us tow a very small percentage of our mileage and use the truck as a daily driver or infrequent driver. If that is the case, I know from experience that the lighter truck will probably be more likeable as long as it can still haul the mail when called upon. I had an older ('94) F 250 HD for 13 years and I can tell you the ride definately got your attention. I'm sure the newer trucks have come a long way in the ride and handling dept., so the expectations are higher. I can also tell you the F-150 HD was a welcome relief from the bruised kidney bonanza of the F-250, while still doing the towing job.
It's always a trade off, but I can say if I was willing to opt for the 250 based on required payload and towing ability, I think I'd step up to the 350 for the price difference.

I've owned and operated more one ton DRW trucks than most folks and I always found they were useful for the job needed. However at this time I don't require a DRW truck and I find my current 2500 truck is useful for its current job.
With the new Fords, I think you'll find that a fully loaded SRW short box is more expensive than the Dually.
Here are the actual #'s. A F350 SRW short box KR equipped as my truck - pretty much loaded =lists at $66,950. the KR Dually with the exact same options lists at $66,840 and the exact same thing in the F250 lists at $66,400. That pretty much tells the story - they are all the same price because they are all the same truck - throw some airbags on a F250 and it will tow almost any 5'ver made without issue.

The OP as my reply you copied is about a 2500 vs a 3500 DRW. Still apples vs oranges in dollars and hauling ability.

My 3500 SRW is maybe the best vehicle decision I have ever made. Ride quality is just fine taking the kids to school and getting the groceries and I know I have a safe combination when I am towing the camper down the road and I still get to utilize the Mcdonalds drive through

250->350 SRW $600 net
350 SRW -> 350 DRW $1500 net
This is for the same trim level, features and equipment.
Most people that buy the 3/4 ton are simply ignorant to the relative cost/benefit as well as impatient to accept what is on dealer lots.
I keep waiting for some manufacturer to stop offering the 3/4 ton. The cost savings for manufacturing complexity and dealer inventory will be huge.

I think you misread my post. My F350 SRW lists at 66,950 and a DRW with all the same options is $110 less money at 66,840. How on earth is that apples to oranges different in price. I agree the DRW can handle allot more payload but the 250 with airbags can easily handle all but the very largest of 5th wheels. The whole point is that there is very little difference in a one ton dually and a 3/4 ton.

Me, too. No regrets whatever buying the big beast.
HOWEVER, IF I should happen to want to get a newer truck, it will be a 3/4 ton. I no longer NEED a 1 ton, be it SRW or DRW.
