The highway is open but one lane is closed due to a cave-in of the outside (southbound) lane. Expected to reopen both lanes by tomorrow. However, flooding is going to remain a big problem on this route and in the NW in general. Make sure you get up to date road condition reports.

Roads closures in Oregon are too numerous to mention. It is not raining anymore however the ground is soaked and there are up to 80 mph gustss predicted. Expect shallow rooted trees to be falling (i.e. Doug firs) and accompanying power outages tonight.

Just got home from my son's house and Hwy 101 has one way traffic as they work. Not a big deal maybe 5 minutes at the most.

Would help some planners if you would tell us just where that cave-in is rather than just "south of Newport".

This thread works best as reminder to check the official sources e.g. Oregon DOT (Tripcheck). I have also found useful information by doing web searches for local news outlets, e.g 'Newport news'. County road departments sometimes have emergency road conditions reports.
